Alias, be careful, that's thin ice you're walking on.
Note how I primarily replied to somebody else, and then actually posted on topic. To be fair this thread will not really serve much of a purpose and will die of it's own accord soon enough. It's a dig at the way in which people have come back and are not dead, thus the reference to me being a non-dead.

More a dig at the way people have to dramatize their leaving and coming back.
But, whatever.

That doesn't stop the fact that you should of said "get back on topic" to the person who went off topic, not a humourous reply to what they said, encouraging the bad behaviour. This thread served a purpose until people sent it off topic, if you as a moderator encouraging going off topic, then why is it against the rules?

This post sent the thread quite off topic, and who posted it? It was before the "non-dead" comment so don't act innocent.

This thread served a purpose until people sent it off topic, if you as a moderator encouraging going off topic, then why is it against the rules?

It is at a moderator's discretion as to whether they choose to force a topic back on track. If every time somebody went off topic and I then told them to get back on topic, we'd likely have lost a lot of side-arguments, fun, and general banter that goes with them. People know when they step too far over the edge of a topic most of the time, and the discussion usually goes back on course of it's own right. Tbh, Spammy Yummy discussion usually lasts very little time at all until the topic decays and dies, or goes so far off course that it gets locked. This is at the tipping point at the moment, and frankly, I'd like to see where it goes on it's own rather than enforce it.

As a moderator, I know when to draw the line, and when not to. I know how to provide for free speech, and how to cut down when things go overboard. Don't think you know how to do my job. If you have a valid suggestion, then you should know by now as to where to take it up. This is not the place, so let it drop.

EDIT: And yes that first post was a little spammy, but everybody does that. And frankly, it was for fun, and while a moderator, that does not mean that I lose my right to have fun in the SYD should I want to.
