On Monday the 20th of July, 2009, James R. Brown, better known to all of us as CommanderJB, left us all for a much better place. After feeling ill in class he left to get some air but suffered a fall on a flight of stairs. After being taken to hospital, expecting to make a full recovery, he tragically suffered from a seizure from the head trauma he had recieved, common with this type of injury. After being left without oxygen for several minutes he was pronounced brain dead. He leaves behind his mother, father, twin brother and a community spanning the globe that will be deeply saddened to hear of his untimely passing.

To many of us James was a truly remarkable person. Not only an outstanding member of this community but a dear friend. Never before has this community had a member that gave so much for his peers. No post was ever too unremarkable for his attention, too insignificant for his comment and no one was ever beneath his kindness. In every endeavour James embodied the spirit of Fallout Studios. He was, in every sense, Fallout to the core.

Ever since James joined on the 30th of November, 2006 he has been a pivotal figure amongst the community, easily identified by his amazing articulation and the effort made in every post. He was easily identified as a member of some considerable stature with his eloquent posting style and warm attitude quickly endeared him to everyone he engaged. Nothing entertained him more than an earnest discussion and his love of dialogue carried into his every post.

For those that knew him well, James was rock in a sea of instability. Always the voice of reason and kindness. Never too busy to be on hand to listen to a problem and offer advice, that for a lesser person, was well beyond their years. His strength of character, purpose and fortitude found him friends around the world. Admittedly a quiet and modest person, James held in him a resolution that echoed into the depths of the souls of all that he spoke to. But his words held conviction that many of us will aspire to all of our lives. In a world fraught with harshness and selfishness, James possessed a sensitivity so powerful that he touched all those he came into contact with. Even in the most dire of moments James was able to find the compassion and humanity that reminded you that life was in fact worth living. His philanthropy of spirit will live on, even if he cannot.

It is no doubt that James would have succeeded in life where many would fail or falter. If we were all only half the humanitarian that James was at only 18 the world would be a paradise, lush with life and rich in benevolence. But even in death James has been able to touch yet more people with his generosity. Because of his immense and indomitable spirit James has helped at last 7 people even death. In each of them now lives on a momentous gift from a person that should have been given more time to enjoy life, but it was his wish to help those less fortunate than himself and a true legacy to this amazing person that others may benefit from his death.

So we must bid a final farewell to a friend, comrade and administrator. And in doing so we have decided to honour James' memory by dedicating to him a category befitting his position here amongst his friends and peers. James will now be interred to our new and most honoured position of "Fallen Brother". Remembering him as someone, that before all else, put the community to the fore and everyone before himself. But let us not remember James with sadness and regret as I am sure he himself would say:

Quote

Because I have loved life, I shall have no sorrow to die.

So it is with much heartfelt saddness that we must say goodbye to our dear friend and comrade, a hole has been made in our community and in our hearts that can never be filled. Your memory will live on and your legacy will remain. Our best wishes to you on the next leg of your journey. We'll meet again soon enough.

I cannot think of anything more fitting than has been said by Wizard here. JB was a great man, a true friend, and a rock. He was possibly the least deserving person of this fate. It is a cruel world we live in, and this is a horrible reminder of it. May you rest in peace, and thoroughly enjoy yourself wherever you are. *Raises glass*

To James.

I am still struggling to find the words to express how I feel. JB was a well respected member and administrator of this community, and will be greatly missed by many people.

RIP James.

I've never found the appropriate words for such things, so:

Farewell and rest in peace.
Now go out and procreate. IN THE NAME OF DOOM!

I am saddend by this event, it is hard to believe that this has happend to one of us forumers, let alone JB.
I still cannot find a good way to express the way I feel, but I will just say that he was a good man, hard-working and faithful, always putting somthing extra into what he did.

I will miss JB, and everyone here will.

Rest in peace, JB.

I regret now not being able to talk much to this wonderful person. CommanderJB was always big in his posts, big in his heart, in his compassion even though he may have not always shown it. May he rest in peace wherever he may be. *raises glass*

Farewell James Brown. I'm not as good as you were at making long posts, so I'll stick with brevity. Little as I knew you, I know least of all deserved this. Rest in peace.

*raises glass as well*

To James Brown, a friend and colleague I can only say it's been a great pleasure to work with, and a man who is worthy of everyone's fond remembrance.

Farewell comrade. A nice day becomes a sad day.
I hope you're now in the heavens resting in peace.
I joined this comunity so last month. Is sad to see it happening in real life.

I'm with no words at this moment.

This is sad news. It sort of puts life into perspective, one little trip was all that was needed to take away the life of a very intelligent man. I didn't know JB that well myself but he was a mature, decent and intelligent member of society and will be missed.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Its so sad but also odd really, even though I do not know Him well, and even though I normally not get sad with death news due to I am so much into violence games and such but that Photo of Him, and news above that Photo, its just made me really sad and thoughtful, its just something which happens rarely to me. He looks ' innocent ', and thats something I care and think everybody needs to care, its just sad man, I don't know what to say more, hope He gets good things afterlife |8

JB, was a good man. I didn't know him personally, but a few of his trips to the IRC helped me determine that if I ever did get to know him, he would be a very good chap, an angel sent down from heaven.

It's sad to see such a great person leave this earth, but, I'm sure where he is will be much better for him.

May you rest in peace, JB.

If the death of one so young, so solid, serves any purpose it's to remind us just how fragile our existence is. In passing James has learned us to appreciate what we have, Has taught us, never to forget such a kind respectful member.

Rest in Peace Mr. Brown.

No, why Goddamnit, why...

I...I can't believe. This has to be a fucking joke.

I mean... Since I asked him what it takes to get in Australia, he gave me promise that he would do anything for me. At the moments I got too much into asking him, just to be ashamed few seconds later for my dumb behaviour.

And yet, he never gone hard on me, he would just put a smiley and acted like nothing happened. He said that will do at least 10 things for me... As he promised to help and advise me, so I promised that I will return the favor. I never refused (in myself) to return the favor, everyone who did a deed for me, I paid it back.

Apparently, this will be the first bloody time I have to cross my principles.
Funny as it may be, but our last conversation was about cooking. I asked about his famous "cooking skills", only to find out he's been bloody microwave jockey. There was that promise - I said that if I ever come in Hobart, I will try to teach him.

James, I will remember your utter kindness and hospitality, your will and knowledge.

Sit tibi terra Australis levi, meus amicus.

EDIT: Sorry, AJ, was writing this, didn't saw your post.

No problems DK, there's not anything wrong with it, just that the wiki page won't get shunted down in the forum lists etc - it's always there in the same place as it were..

Also, people who wish to display the avatar I am currently using, please find it in my sig and feel free.

I'd love to say something long written and special about JB, but I really can't put into words how sad I am at hearing of this loss. I just know that it's sad to see someone of such talent with such a future to have his life ended so suddenly.

It really seems you only know how much was there once it's gone.
