Just a topic to gain some insight on a good client for people to use, to help them out in picking one.

If you would, list some pros and/or cons about your client.

I use Pidgin.
Pros:

• I can configure it to auto identify my nick
  
• It assigns each person in the conversation a colour, to help keep track
  
• Custom smilies
  
• If your name is mentioned in conversation, it makes a sound and higlights that line
  
• Opens the chat in a window

Cons:

• I cannot configure it to do the commands I want when entering the room
  
• Does not support formatting such as italic or bold, but I can view them

I use Pidgin as well, here are a couple more pros:

- Has many plugins available, so a lot of room for customisation (for example: spell checker, guifications (adds notifications in the bottom right-hand corner similar to MSN) and many more)
- Tabs, easy to keep track of multiple channels
- Supports other protocols (e.g. MSN, ICQ, etc.)

additional cons:
- When you right click a name, you have a limited amount of options, speaking from an ops point of view, would be nice to have options to de/voice, etc.
- Although has plugins, still quite limited


Another good client to try is Trillian Astra, has some neat features of it's own, and looks very stylish.

I used mIRC before, but know I'm using ChatZilla

Pros:

• I can configure it to auto identify my nick
  
• Custom smilies
  
• If you get a message on Private chat, or you nick is mentioned in the chat, the window highlights on the taskbar
  
• Integrated in Firefox, and configured to handle all IRC links
  
• Can be configured to enter a list of specific commands when connecting to a server
  
• Tabbed browsing for multiple channels
  
• Great list of commands when you right click a nick (especially for ops)
  
• Is affected by Firefox Spell Checker

Cons:

• Does not support formatting such as italic or bold, and cannot view them as well
  
• I cannot configure it to do the commands I want when entering the room
  
• No plugins

mIRC. Simplicity works for me. All text, no smilies and such. Tabs. Highlights.

mIRC and X-Chat are probably the most complete clients out there, and are specifically geared towards more advanced use. Both support plugins and scripting.

I discovered Pidgin when I got Ubuntu and I like it because its simple and has tabs etc...

I use HydraIRC here, it just seems to work (though, admittedly I'm not in the FS IRC channel, but I do use it for Red Alert: A Path Beyond's IRC channel hosted by MP-Gaming).

Chatzilla - it works across both Mac and Windows platforms thanks to it's integration into Firefox, and it gets the job done.

Nettalk for me, simple and effective.

I am using mIRC 6.35 with INVISION 3.1.1 (June 09)

Basically this is the standard mIRC with lots of useful addons, scripts and tools built in and a really nicer default interface.
I added lots more of my own scripts to it and its so useful to have.

However when i use my MAC I use Colloquy
and for Linux i tend to use irssi

You're not missing much.
Would but I can never find Acidchat in the server list and I cba to find a work around or something.
Only really use it to find COD4 mixes and for the Multiplay iSeries IRC.

See if you had invision then you can just add acidchat (spicylemons) to your autoconnect
