Within a few days, 1 year has passed since the russian-georgian conflict began. If anyone isnt aware, the conflict began as Georgia tried getting back its regions of abkhazia and south ossetia, but only to be met with resistance from the russian federations.

There have been various reports that blame the russians as the aggressors, but georgia started the conflict. as i have read, with various sources mentionning that former georgian ambassador even said that the georgian plan to attack had been set out few weeks before the offensive.

Georgia

Georgia had hoped that NATO or EU would assist it in getting back its breakaway regions. but no help came to them. but the conflict had been beneficial to the georgians for politically, the georgians were seen as the victims of russian aggression. however, militarily, the georgians had dug a hole they could not get themselves out of. despite good equipment, were fighting against a nation that had enough tanks in a division as the entire georgians had. Plus, as the war progressed, georgians were not willing for a war for russia was winning and could very well invade georgia. personally, georgia was lucky to still survive the russians or investigation by the international court of justice for using artillery against the regions. the fact that the used heavy artillery meant that in certain ways that russia had reasons to protect the safety of its citizens for artillery, light or heavy is still potent.

Russia

Criticism of russia has been rampant over the conflict. Many nations accuse russia of being the aggressor, but russia is just a victim of circumstance. plus the fact russia had used force meant that it may not be supported as abkhazia and south ossetia were still recognised as georgian territory, but the situation is made more complicated by the fact they have russian passports. Militarily, russia showed that it is still a powerful nation and still feared, for russian forces arrived quickly to take on the georgian forces. the 300 georgian death to around 40 (numbers?) russian deaths show its lethality. Plus the very fact russians didnt invade georgia to its capital or use excessive force meant that the russians had weighed the political repurcussions and had expected the war to be short, while the georgians had prepared to use the entire assets of their army.

1 year on

Georgia has warned that it may wage war yet again on the russian federation. yet, georgia is still hoping that NATO and the US will fight World War 3 for georgia, which is well, stupid. russia has increased combat readiness of its troops.

Personally, i think georgia is just a paper rat not a paper tiger. its army has underwent mutiny, georgia has had political trouble and georgian morale is still low. russia is still powerful, and has enough forces to destroy the georgian army. I do not think a war will happen despite the apparent threats by the georgian government, for there is no purpose. NATO would not support georgia, neither would the US
