Now that I inherited my grandpa's electric razor I had a taste of both types of razor and I thought it'd be interesting to see who prefers what here. Or if there are people at all who don't shave because they are growing a beard, and how many people don't need to shave.

I myself had to shave since I was 17 because by that age I already looked like half a monkey. I've always used a normal razor, not an electric one, until like I said, I tried it out for myself two minutes ago. Though I can see electric shaving being useful for trimming big beards (my electric razor happens to have an electric trimmer option on it and I had over half an inch of beard thanks to forgetting my razor in the Czech Republic) but I wouldn't want to shave with it normally - it feels like my hairs are being pulled out by the machine, and it doesn't seem to shave nearly as smoothly as a normal razor can. It's much faster though, and you're not exactly likely to cut yourself. So what do you guys think on this?

I hate shaving with the same passion reserved for rapists and murderers. However electric razors irritate my skin so I always wet shave and 9 times out of 10 I use a cut throat razor. Got it as a wedding present from my wife as she knows I hate bad shaves. It's a Carter & Bond razor and strop and is by far the best razor I've ever had. That said I use mach 5000 or whatever number it is when I am in a bigger rush.

I much prefer not shaving but having a beard in my profession is seen as somewhat "iffy" or I'd just let it grow.

Yeah, I hate shaving too |8 . I generally can't be arsed to shave more than once per week, until it's almost centimetred, but when I do I like to have it very clean, ergo I go for wet shaves.

I use a machete.

Seriously though, my stubble is not coarse enough for me to bother using anything more than a disposable razor. I like having a little facial hair becuase 9 times out of 10 it saves the embarrasment of diving through my wallet for my ID.

I'll move this to GD as it doesn't smell like spam at all.

I shave every four days now as stubble grows fairly quick. Anyway I have been shaving/trimming my beard since I was 14. I started off with an electrical trimmer due to acne problems. Once that cleared up at 17, moved to disposable BIC razors which were absoulte shit and then I got a Gilette Fusion which has 5 blades so it needs less pressure. I also use shaving gel, but would like to move to a cut-throat razor perhaps.

Dry shave with buzzers designed for trimming hair. Takes about 10 mins and my skin isn't irritated at all.

Like Chyros, I've had to shave since my mid to late teen years (probably 16 or 17, can't remember which). To a point I like having facial hair, because it gives me something to style when I'm bored. However, the hair that has decided to grow around the upper portion of my neck irritates me, particularly when I've been very active.

Typically I'll have a goatee and on rare occasions (unlike now), I'll sport a mustache, though there are inherent difficulties with keeping such a patch of fur. I use a Braun electric razor because the circular blades of my Norelco weren't cutting the mustard, and wet shaving doesn't suit me any more.

I use a combination of both, because I'm a lazy git. I have the electric razor to speed up the overall shaving process, then have a couple of swipes using a disposable razor. No need for buying shaving cream or assorted tissues to patch up mishaps. I still get the silky smooth skin in about two minutes and that with a week's worth of stubble.

I shave once a week with a mach 3, since it shaves me from getting ID-ed on the weekends :)

I use an non-electric razor, and it depends on the mood if I completely shave everything or that I (try to) keep a goatee :)

Non-electric, as I currently don't have anywhere near enough facial hair to consider purchasing an electric. (I'm only 16) I usually have to once every two weeks or so.

man i hate shaving...it takes me like an hour to get rid of it all only to see it grow up at the same size 3 days later

though i use both a bit of el. and a bit of ze classico. Electrical made my life somewhat easier but still it cant get everything off so i need to wet shave to finish it. And yes despite the fact that im 16 i got a lumberjack looking beard (D.K. can confirm this)

When I was a little younger, I kept a lot more facial hair because it made me look older. Now that I won't be mistaken for a teenager without it, I shave pretty much daily. Non-electric, mainly, but I have an electric razor I got from my dad years ago, and still use if I'm really in a rush.
kinda, sorta alive.

Hmm, some friends had beard even when they were 16 so they could get (illegally) a beer.

I started to shave when I was 15-16 years old when I almost got small moustache...
First I used electric razors (Tesla, after razor abrasion Philips 6600 which I still have, but hardly use),
later I realized electric razor shaves bad (fast, but bad), so I started to use normal (some double Wilkinson Sword razors).
It takes half an hour, I hate it, so I usually shave myself on Sunday.

Every time I shave I scratch myself or shave incompletely, but normal razor is still better and more hygienic than electric razor (which also needs some maintainance).

Another reason why I shave on Sunday is that without facial hair I look 5 years younger (I am almost 21).

Got an electric one, dislike it but can't be arsed to buy anything else. I generally get ID'd with or without any facial hair, so I shave every couple of days.

Even when clean shaven I don't get ID'd anymore, I'm getting offended.

No mate, like the constant upkeep I mean. Posted Image I currently have a thin goatee, but the hair around it grows in too sodding fast. In fact, I think I had a 5 o'clock shadow around 4pm the day I shaved it. 8|
