Never heard of mistakes? I meant that 240 are metric and 3 are non-metric.

Well that's just the way my brain works, sometimes words get jumbled up. I think up one word I want to say or type, but between the word and my hands something goes wrong and I end up typing something that's related in either meaning or sound to what I really wanted to say. I want to say us, and I type up. I want to say metric, but my mind's really thinking about non-metric so that's what I type. My mind over-associates, if I could call it that.

1. Apple pies suck
2. American football sucks - it's a primitive form of football used before the rules that made the sport so popular and beautiful to watch were implemented. It shouldn't even be called football as mostly the hands are used.
3. In case you haven't noticed, most democracies use the metric system

I vote for the metric system because:
1. It's very simple
2. Saves time and money
3. A standardised world measuring system is preferrable for better understanding and not looking like an underdeveloped race that can't agree on how to measure by the time we establish diplomatic relations with alien species.

And the Imperial; system is a pile of jumbled outdated measuring units that started to exist during biblical times, although most of them are more recent.

I like American Football, Its a contact sport and thus can be played by only tougher bodies. You see, soccer (football) is a completely different sport altogether. Nobody tries to hurt each other. American Football on the other hand, is a lot more strategic than soccer (football). When in a game, you will a lot of times find yourself taking out your rage on the field; tackling people and kicking the ball and ramming through your opponents with as much force as you can muster. Soccer (football) is a competetive sport, yes, but you can't get the same thrill out of it that you can with American Football.

Back to the topic at hand: It would not save money for the countries using the Imperial system, but it would provide a global system of measure. This would make relations at least a bit easier.

I think you have never watched a game played by some major teams; and i mean European teams coming from the best leagues of the world ( Seria A, Bundesliga, etc. ). They DO try to hurt each other. Hurt badly i might add. Personally i like to look the Superball everys now and then, but i do'nt find Football more interesting then Soccer and Basket.

Implementing the Metric system in the US ( or in other countries who adopt it ) is kinda impossible. As an example you can take the change of the pressure measurement system in the EU: Its A LONG time now since it passed from BAR to Hectopascal, over 20 years if i'm not wrong, but still i don't know a single person who uses it. And it would not cost THAT muich money to change some pressure signs as it would cost to change all the road signs of a country.

Hell, in italy they still calculate with their old money ( example: wow, today i speant 30 €, thats 60 000 Lire! *rant* *rant* )

I don't know if you got my point as somehow today i can't get those damn english words in my head to create an entire sentence, but i tried somehow.....

The imperial system must stay 500ml is too little and 1l is too much beer for one glass 568ml is fine.

ive listed other as due to the fun backwards educaation system of the midlands of england. I spent 4 years learning imperial before the school converted to metirc so i can understand both (am a little fuzzy on fliud measure and the name for 220 yards i think its a furlong).

As for who invented it they system has been around since the greeks but ahs been refined by various "intelligent" people over the years, i believe it was Queen Victoria who gave the mile its length of 1760 yeards (8 furlongs)

Im also a student of theoritical physics and would be crippled if i has to calculate all my work in imperial, it would seem im being stereotypically English in wants to hold onto a defective and outdated sysetm.


Bonus points will be awarded if anyone can tell me why the british aswell as i think 50 other countires is 4ft 8 1/2 inches wide. and im not putting it in metric for you either. jk its 1435mm

OK i have to come down on the side of metirc now, base 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 14, 16 and 20 are absolute pigs to 'get' but once you understand them they are no more difficult than base 10.

Metric helps scientists but is irrelevent for the general public, we dont want kilometres, who knows in the UK what a km is? If your on the forum you probably have some computing knowledge and therefore can do maths. but your basic pleb is out in the cold when it comes to conversion
