Metric is simple. I've felt that since I first used it. Celsius, 1 = water freezes, `100 = water boils (or was it 0 is freezing) either way its quite simple (if i just had that clarified :P)

But yeah, 0-1 = COLD, 100 = HOT. Simple isn't it?

Not some 32 = COLD and some odd number over 100 = HOT. (the imperial system)

Metric is sooo much easier.

5280 ft in a mile?
1000 meters in a KILOmeter.

Kilo = 1000
? = 5280

but metric uses that scale for all whereas imperial uses really random seeming measures.

As I said I wasn't too sure on that. Thank you for clarifying. They don't give us enough metric :(

You make me despise your ignorance when you call us "Yanks" and say we make you laugh for not fully understanding your measurement system. That's real low. :P

Your measurement system is needlessly complicated and a relic of the past.

You think? That's what the whole topic was started about. That is correct, me, a citizen of the US, hates the imperial system. No need to further that is there? We all know I hate it don't act like I support it, EH?

Anyway metric for the win in my book.

Fahrenheit is too confusing... with celsius, it is easy to distinguish (gawd I can't spell) the temperature because everyone know the temperature of ice and of boiled water.

Cryptkeeper, you mean the Kelvin scale. Kelvin uses the same scaling as Celsius but it starts at absolute 0, so 0 Celsius equals 273.15 Kelvin.

And Switchblade, glad to see at least one American who realises how easy the metric system really is! :P

Noooo!!! Then he'd be away from his idol! George W. Bush! But really. We just can't change to metric any more. It's too late. Maybe... 20 years ago it might have worked. Acutally, maybe 60 years ago it might have worked. Yeah. 60 is better.

I don't idol Bush, he just is better than Kerry would've been.

Billy, you must think in the long run. In the long run, switching to metric will be very good, though it will cause a large amount of issues in the first year or two or three or some.

But it would take years! And trillions of dollars (And that's just for road signs). We don't have that money to spend, especially with things like the debt the war is raising. (250 billion, man. We can't even pay that off.)

Gradually my friend. Start with classroom stuff like replace rulers/yard sticks and not all at once, but something to do over years.

After all the small stuff is done, move into MPH to change to KPH. And only start with certain cities or states but make sure people know who is switching when.

It would work.

Soo... If i'm driving on H Street in DC, and it's in imperial, and I have to go on the beltway to get back home, and it's in metric, i've gotta do all these calculations while driving. And if kids learn metric in school, and all they see is imperial, this stuff won't work.

It bothers me still why the US uses the imperial measurement system. 12in in a foot. 3ft in a yard, 5280ft in a mile?

What the hell?

A system of .0001, .001, .01, .1, 1, 10, 100, 1000 Is much easier to use. The US should damn well switch to the Metric system as well as other countries that use the screwy imperial method.

Any thoughts on this?

If you say 240/243 are non-metric, how they hell do you get 99% that do use metric? ( other than 1337 hax of course ) What kind of math do you guys do over there anyways?
