I believe this could be a gimmicky year for cinema.
With all the 3D stuff being shoved into our faces are there any decent movies coming out this year?

At the moment i can think of Iron Man 2, hopefully it's just as good as the first one.

Are there any movies your looking forward to this year?

Meet the Little Focker(s) is supposed to be coming out I believe. Not sure what else to expect.
Oh Green Line for Matt Damon will likely be an interesting Bourne style movie (it's the same director dammit :))

I've heard it described as "Jason Bourne... goes to iraq". But at the same time, I'm actually really looking forward to it.

Having read the book it's based on, I'll likely get let down as it's supposedly a huge shift away from it, and the book was engrossing.

Also looking forward to a huge list of films for next year:

Legion: God sends angels to exterminate mankind. Looks ace, very delayed release date in the UK, Jan 22 for US, mid-March for UK. I hate Screen Gems so much for that. But it looks ace, very much so.

Extraordinary Measures: True story of man who builds a pharmaceutical firm just to cure a disease his children have. Heartwarming, middle of Feb for the UK.

The Wolfman: Has Anothony Hopkins in it, need I say more? If so, WEREWOLVES! Middle of Feb for the UK

Alice in Wonderland: Could well be spectacular, what with the cast, the director, and the use of 3D. Gogo Disney, April launch.

Clash of the Titans: Greek gods, greek mythology, and lots of badass fighting. Got to look forward to this. End of March for this one.

Machete: Based on the fake short-ad from the start of Planet Terror, this looks like another Robert Rodriguez hit. Expect violence, guns, and lotsa hot ladies.

Iron Man 2: DUH. Beginning of June.

Robin Hood: Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe. Not like they made one of the best movies ever *cough* Gladiator *cough*. Expect great things from this one. Middle of May release.

Prince of Persia: Possibly going to be a bit hit and miss, but this may just be THE video game adaptation that makes all of the other shoddy ones worthwhile. Hitman, I AM looking at you. Coming to a cinema near you end of May.

The A-Team: Mr.T. You'd beter not be asking for any more reasons to go and see this, FOO! Early June for this bad boy.

Toy Story 3: yes, everyone's lovable toys are back for another outing. Bring on all sorts of shennanigans, and in full 3D too. Middle of June, Howdy folks!

The Sorcerer's Apprentice: taken from a section of Fantasia (1980s Disney animation), sees Nick Cage delving into dark arts and whatnot to save the world. Could be very interesting, could be a disaster. Early July for this one.

Predators: Sequel to Predator (of 1986 or so), directed by Robert Rodriguez. Could be excellent. Could be a disaster. Either way, it has Predators so it must be fun. Or it will fall flat on it's face like the AvP movies, but lets hope not. Early July for this little monster.

Little Fockers: As already mentioned, Fockers, babies, and babes (we get Jessica Alba in this one). Should be fun if nothing more substantial than that. End of July here.

Salt: Angelina Jolie playing a supposed sleeper agent for Russia. Looks interesting, and sounds like she could be going action-heroy on us again, which was only good in the Tomb Raider films (maybe not so much the second but she suits the role) End of July for this one too.

Red: Morgan Freeman + Bruce Willis always = good film, and this one appear dark enough to get people's attention. Seems very suited to them, interested indeed in it. End October for this one.

Deathly Hallows Pt.1: Should be a solid film, the storyline we all know is good, and if they stay true to the books, this should work out nicely. November release for this bit of magic.

Red Dawn: Remake of the classic, if anyone has seen Scrubs and wondered what all of the 'WOLVERINES' yelling was all about, this is it. But better and with more CGI. Expect it late November.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader: Narnia, yes, but the others have been good, and the story for this one is imo, the best book in the series. Looking forward to it, but it is still all but a year away - release is mid December.

Some unmentionables too:

Sex and the City Two: RUN AWAY NOW. Godawful first film, this will make money on the back of a dead franchise, and an all-fail cast. Expect disaster, poor plot lines and legions of fans flocking to see it. If you have a girlfriend, break up with her for the week starting 28th May. If you're married, you're so totally buggered.

Shrek 4ever After: The only good thing about this movie is that it is set to be the last - the franchise is already dead, and if they beat the dead horse much more, the poor thing will be kicked into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of LA. The end is nigh 21st May.

The Karate Kid: Remake of the classic film from the 80s with Jackie-I-Can't-Act Chan occupying a lead role. When Will Smith signed on to produce, I dunno what he was thinking. Expect a disaster masterclass mid June.

Twilight 3 (Eclipse/whatever it's called): Yes, that's right, the not particularly good looking vampires and werewolves are all back to compete for the heart of one single human all over again. Expect swooning, huge queues, and people ringing the town in which it was filmed, asking if they have a vampire problem. Seriously, that happened courtesy of the last one. Expect this horror show sometime in late June.

Knight and Day: Diaz and Cruise reunited under one of the most flimsy plot synopsis' of all time. Agent (Cruise) needs to protect battery, and drags in unsuspecting female heroine (Diaz), unsuspecting or otherwise. Both past it, most significantly Diaz. Will make millions, even though it will be universally panned.

Yogi Bear: What the fuck. Justin Timberlake has the sidekick role in what can only be described as a wtf moment. You can't write a story on this bear, nor can you direct a singer. Expect a massive Boo-Boo in late December.

There is no tl;dr here so don't look for it :)

Sex and the City 2? Awesome, first one was ace, yeah, screw the haters :shakehead:

There is also something called Daybreakers which looks pretty sweet, everyone in the world is a vampire and the blood is running out

Ehh? You make it sound like you don't like the 3D movies but at the same time you name Iron Man 2 as a good movie. How can you then not like 3D movies like Avatar?

Nice list though @ above. You shouldn't forget about Inception: A contemporary science fiction action thriller set within the architecture of the mind.

Yeah, I don't feel like doing more research, just watch the trailer.

I just don't like 3D movies, they don't excite me because i find it distracting to the plot/story. I didn't say anything about Avatar, Saw 7 3D, Jackass 3D and many other crappy 3D cash cows are coming this year.

And I like Iron Man because i like comic book heroes/villains :shakehead:

Have you seen Avatar? That's saying because this is not the same 3D where stuff flies at you from the screen, it's more like the screen has depth itself.

Predator = Bad. Why?

Because I heard its actually supposed to be a remake of the first movie but with multiple Predators and without Arnie. Just the sound of the story makes it sound full of fail.

It's supposed to be a sequel actually. Rodriguez's films are good, and turning his hand to an established franchise such as Predator could be VERY good indeed.

There is also an interesting movie comming out called The Exam.

Coming out: Jan. 8 2010 [UK] Eight talented candidates have reached the final stage of selection to join the ranks of a mysterious and powerful corporation. Entering a windowless room, an Invigilator gives them eighty minutes to answer one simple question. He outlines three rules they must obey or be disqualified: don't talk to him or the armed guard by the door, don't spoil their papers and don't leave the room. He starts the clock and leaves. [Trailer]

Horray for C&P!

Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this years films, most of them look good.

Edit: A-Team the movie?! Everyone in my familey must know about this.

The Exam looks a bit silly for my tastes. Has some good British actors though.

True, but im still very pessimistic about it. People used to worsen up "well established franchise" before (Terminator for instance...the first 2 even decades older than the last 2 are still far better...even in the effects department)

Of AJ's massive list, I feel like Red Dawn would be the one that should excite me the most, but because Josh Peck (of TV fame 'round these parts) is in a starring role, and he's famous for appearing on an (admittedly, for what it is) humor show on nickelodeon, and I wonder whether he'll take it seriously (and I loved the original, as much of a cult film as it was). So I wonder if they'll do it justice, and I'll definitely see it: it's just a question of whether it'll be any good.

I'm not a fan of this series, so don't ask me to see it. Besides, many of my co-workers here are crooning over this one. I personally think they're just a bunch of dolts who got carried away by the hype. (Or is it the other way around?)

The Book of Eli is a story that sets Denzel Washington in post-apocalyptic America. Something about it feels like Fallout 3, but his character must protect a book that seemingly holds the key to saving humanity.

That got into my 'Good Films' list, should be very good, if it follows the pattern of the other HP films, which have consistently gotten better throughout the series.

I disagree. The last HP movie was terrible.

I'm hoping this one will be good though.

I really enjoyed it because it was all a bit more human for the most part, it wasn't so focused on the magic, more on the characters, which is what Rowling wanted out of the sixth book. The fix for all the magic-lovers will come in the second half of the seventh film, that's when it all goes tits up :P
