The idea has been going around to add a subforum here for simulation games. That includes games such as Transport Tycoon/OpenTTD, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Simutrans, Simcity, Flight Simulator, Evil Genius and lots more.

So, do you play any simulation-type games? If so, which?

Yeah I love simulation games, and Open ttd released it's standalone 1.0 version just yesterday. Also Dwarf fortress released a long awaited update yesterday as well, although it runs a lot slower then the last release for me sadly.
Simcity 4 will never got old and I'd really love it if they made a Simcity 5. Cities XL was just garbage really to make money off the MMO craze. and Rollercoaster tycoon 1 and 2 were great ut 3 changed too much to really make it the same lovable game.

I played a lot of Evil Genius (for obvious reasons :P) and i have played some others over the years but the majority i find seem to cater to a niche audience.

I've played many games like Theme Hospital, Roller-coaster Tycoon 2 & 3, etc. I could always pick up one of these games, no matter how old and easily kill a few hours on them.

But my preferred style of Simulation games, that I play on a more regular basis, are on the other end of the spectrum... Such as racing games, I generally like sim-racing games more than say... kart arcade racing games, but my favourite racing game is by far GRID, which is more of a sim/gameplay hybrid. I'm also looking forward to Skate 3, which with the new hardcore mode, should be much truer to life. :P

EDIT: 'Arcade', that's the word I was looking for!

I suppose with some imagination you could count games like FoF, DDR and GH among this group as well.

Pretty hefty amounts of imagination. I can't truly speak for the guitar ones, but DDR (Dance dance revolution I presume?) has pretty much nothing to do with dancing. I used to be pretty awesome at the dance games, but I can't dance in the real world to save my life.

I played..

Simcity 2000/3000/4
Rollercoaster Tycoon 1/2/3
Theme Hospital
Theme Park World
Dungeon Keeper 1/2
Caesar 3 / Pharoah / Zeus Master of Olympus
Zoo Tycoon

I guess I also played The Sims at a friends as well.

I really hope they make another game like Simcity 4, alot of people complained it was to difficult - I loved that about it! And the amount of custom content that was created is insane.

You're good at theme hospital too I presume but that doesn't mean you can run a real hospital either. :P

I'm not sure if they count to you all or not, but the Mechwarrior games have often been called "Simulator" games. So I'm going to put those in the list.

I played mainly city building simulations like SimCity 2000/3000/4, Theme Hospital, Pharaoh and Zeus Master of Olympus, but I sometimes play flight simulators, especially H.A.W.X and the Microsoft ones :P

I think "simulation" genre is a wide one. It can be the sims/tycoon like, flight/driving/etc simulation, even to the silly dating sim games. :P

I played the sims and tycoon series, but the rather old ones. they're fun when you're at your highest and you ruin them for lulz.
I enjoyed the flight simulation games (they can be classified as shooting games I think). and.. are racing also classified as simulation?

I new someone would say that. |8

But my point is, the actual game part of the game has nothing to do with dancing. Pressing arrows as they appear on the screen has nothing to do with dancing. So that only leaves the unique peripheral (which most games lack) and that doesn't simulate dancing either.
