Chew on that Algeria, hahaha. This is probably as far as US goes though.
Don't think so tbh. Half the world probably didn't expect the US to get as far as they did, let alone them getting the top in their pool. The US will probably face Ghana, who are a good match definitely, but nothing I'd immediately rule out the current US against. Especially with so many major countries failing, if the US are ever gonna break through a bit, it's gonna be now.

England finally turned up.
We played SO much better in this game then we have for the whole tournament.
Looking forward to Germany tonight.

Besides, the honour of the whole African continent rests on Ghana's shoulders now, and tbh they've always been my favourites among the African teams. I'm hoping we can see some more of them |8 .

A good first half.
Lets hope for some second half goals.

Teams seem pretty evenly matched in performance, though the Germans do play with more skill. Ghanese don't have to be ashamed of the match so far though. Except in the theatricals, the Ghanese are making a huge drama out of every fart gets blown in their general direction |8 .

Looks like England will be playing Germany which will be an interesting game.
Although i didn't see it, i hear Serbia were very hard done by to not get a penalty against Australia.

Didn't see Aus v Ser either but their scores did keep the otherwise rather mediocre Ghana v Germany relatively exciting.

Interestingly, this means either the US or Ghana will be in the quarter finals. Don't think many people expected either to |8 .

This US world cup team could be the one that kind of makes soccer more mainstream in the US. I started following the natonal team after happening uppon the confed. cup game against brazil, but today, i saw people who have never liked soccer go crazy on facebook with that goal. If the team goes much farther, i expect a little more respect for the game. not only is this team fun to watch, it has the freak-of-nature like athletes we're used to seeing in our other sports in the form of altidore and buddle. heck, after watching that match, i grabbed my cleats, dusted off my soccer ball that hasn't been used in years(i do still play pickup games occasionally, but never use my ball) and took some target practice at my chain link fence.

Bye Bye, Australia :(

Didn't make it the next round due to goal difference, 4-0 to Germany |8

Netherlands v Cameroon tonight |8 .

Considering the Netherlands are through anyway and Cameroon aren't through either way, it's probably gonna be a friendly match between the Cameroonian team and the Dutch reserve team but still. Denmark v Japan should be interesting too.

Also, let's see if the Italians can do anything right ever, or how well New Zealand can hold up to the so-far-quite-good Paraguay.

Slovakia Italy. Could be seeing the reigning champions going out in the group stages, considering how bad they're playing.

Slovakia are leading the Italians 1-0. This Cup is something |8 .

They do them at the same time because the outcomes of both matches influence each other. Depending on what happens in the other match, the fate of those in one match can be decided. To rule out anterior knowledge of what to do, both matches have to take place at the same time.

A good result for Slovakia has put them through and Italy out :O
To be honest they deserved it. They have played badly all tournament and deserved what they got.
I do hope Cameroon play well to make the game interesting this evening.

It should be a closer match than before, since I'm convinced Marwijk isn't going to any priority players on the field, nor let them play too aggressively. Van Marwijk is an attack-minded coach, but extremely conservative.

Congrats to Slowakia |8 . Not a bad result for them I guess - finishing the reigning world champions during their debut |8 .

I now have an immense respect for the Slovaks, not only did they beat out Italy (which is pretty damn amazing for a World-cup first-timer), the way that Zdenko Strba (#6) continued to play despite the giant gash on his knee really moved me.

I think I support them the most now. GO SLOVAKS!

2 superb goals by the Japanese.

Kinda meh at Holland vs Cameroon; the match is kinda boring.

1-0 for us so far, finally the long-awaited goal by Van Persie :P .

Yeah, it's not going very quickly in our match. None of the parties have anything to benefit or lose from the game and consequently we don't have any of our best players in. The players are also taking it somewhat slow (except Van Persie who is so obsessed with trying to score he's high like a kite).

Oh yeah, I totally forgot it's the losers-for-sure versus the winners-for-sure. No wonder the Danes versus the Japs is such a heated match!

Yeah: whoever wins in their match *ahum* goes through.

Game resuming now :P .

Robben is just lying in wait. Seems to be warming up in fact.

What set up did you see? The only substitute so far is Ajax youngster right back Van der Wiel out for 'The Tank' Bouhlarouz, the rest is playing. The only star that is still missing is Robben.

We made that mistake two years ago and it paid off in a horrible match against Russia.

Van Persie isn't the only one obsessed to score. Im sure you saw that pointless long shot from Van der Vaart, when he had such good other possibilities...

Meh, Van der Vaart is always all over the place, that's his specialty. I'd say we'd have a better team in the field with Elia, Van der Wiel, Afellay and Robben. Van der Vaart is a very decent player though, even though he's made a very critical hands mistake just now. EDIT: which just cost us one point for Cameroon.

EDIT: holy yellow, how many cards do we have now already? Oo

Well the problem is that his current position does not fit him. with Real Madrid he is somewhat in Sneijders position but naturally that man is the absolute number one.

Though there is something to say for Van Marwijk allowing him to play each time, as his individual quality makes him more versatile than the young Elia. This was shown in his assist and good free kick nearly allowing De Jong to score. However as Robben is back he will probably get an even harder time. Not to mention there is always Afellay, who is also playing quite good and has got good references with Van Persie.

Shifting teams, congrats to Japan for making it to the second round. Honda was fabulous and it continues to amaze me how that guy ever could have been signed by VVV (a dutch survival club in the lower regions of the first division. Honda single handedly got raised them up in the division) and now he took the Japs up to the last 16 with a goal and a magnificent assist.

He is one of the few national team stars who actually meets the large expectations. */Honda fan*
