It looks drastically different from the previous games, which should satisfy the critics, love the steampunk look, I shall await more news eagerly.

First one was great, never played the second because i didn't want to spoil the original experience, however this one looks great so far, can't wait for some more details.

Here are the more details :duh:

Quote

Originally conceived as a floating symbol of American ideals at a time when the United States was emerging as a world power, Columbia is dispatched to distant shores with great fanfare by a captivated public. What begins as a brand new endeavor of hope turns drastically wrong as the city soon disappears into the clouds to whereabouts unknown.

The player assumes the role of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to the lost city to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned there since childhood. He develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.

“We are excited to expand the world of BioShock, which is one of the industry’s most critically acclaimed and beloved franchises,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “We believe that Irrational Games will lend their meticulous attention to detail and unique storytelling expertise to make BioShock Infinite an incredible entertainment experience that will immerse new and diehard fans of BioShock alike.”

With the original BioShock, Irrational Games won “Game of the Year” awards from Game Informer, IGN, G4’s X-Play, and BAFTA and redefined what players expect from a first-person shooter. “But when it came to begin work on BioShock Infinite,” said Ken Levine, creative director of Irrational Games, “we only had one rule: No sacred cows. This game is both true to what people love about the series and unafraid to question every assumption.”

Levine continued, “In order to explore the floating city of Columbia, we needed an entirely new engine. To bring Elizabeth to life, we had to build brand-new animation and AI systems. To create wide-ranging indoor and outdoor firefights at 30,000 feet, we had to rethink, rebuild and expand the BioShock arsenal. The only thing gamers can be certain of is this: the rules of the BioShock universe are about to change.”

Now I'm glad that Bioshock 2 wasn't made by the original devs, we get this awesome spiritual sequel instead. This has gone straight into my most anticipated games list, Bioshock 1 was great, lets hope they can pull off another great game.

Bioshock 1 (AND 2!) were awesome, This looks pretty interesting.

PS: the dev team of Bioshock 2 have also revealed an upcoming DLC called Minerva's Lair or something, supposedly its a short expansion that serves as the ending to the series.

Obvious question: Why are there Big Daddies, guys in giant scuba gear, in the SKY?

Did they... not get the symbolism of the Big Daddy?

Hmm, what I remember about playing the first BioShock - gorgeous visuals and an incredible atmosphere and artistic style, alongside boring and clunky first person combat.

Bioshock... in Americuh? ;)

That is one epic thrill ride 8| . Neo couldn't have done the tank shell thingy better if he tried, too 8| . Never tried the Bioshock series before, but this looks quite impressive.

I was put off BioShock because the first game doesn't give me any sound.

This does look impressive, though. The whole thing looks like someone remembered every detail of a rollercoaster nightmare and decided to make a game out of it. It's brilliant.

Bioshock was all about atmosphere, I loved the first one for it, and I think I'll love this one for it.

The first Bioshock had amazing atmosphere but the clunky controls meant I never properly finished it. I think I should revise that stance.

Oh no, same here. I never got past the fourth level in Bioshock and I thought the controls and gameplay were pretty average imo. Much like other games I play, like Metro 2033, STALKER, and Mass Effect, they all have wonderful story and/or atmosphere but mildly lacking in the gameplay sector.

I kind of wish I had the patience and the time to complete it though, the ending is one of the best I've ever encountered. (I youtube'd it, it probably would've been even more momentous if I had gotten there in the game).

Am I the only one who thought Bioshock's controls were perfectly fine?

Now would you kindly play it through, all of you who haven't yet. 8|

Spoiler

The controls weren't bad, they were simply average. Nothing as good as the controls in something like BF2, but not bad enough to be compared to the controls in something like the PC version of Resi 4 (one of the shittiest console to PC ports of all time)

MINE EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLOOORY! OF THE COMING OF THE LOAAARD!

I've been waiting for that trailer for weeks now! AND IT WAS WORTH EVERY GODDAMN SECOND!

EDIT:

In Irrational Forums, they discussed the trailer, and how they noticed how people, flags symbols and pictures seemed to "shift" Username violetalpha put up a very interesting analysis.

From the official forums:

violetalpha, on September 21, 2010 8:06pm, said:

I'm just looking over the trailer again, this time with the ability to start and stop quickly...... Saltonstall does indeed have a sickle and hammer on his medal for a moment.

This had me thinking, and In the background, I saw that there was a propaganda poster talking about how you had to be on guard for people pretending to be Aryan ( her skin is so white, her eyes are so blue, or are they?). this Isn't Bioshock, where people can just splice up and change their Physical traits... something else must have been up.

My next thought came when Booker got his hands on the Murder of crows Vigor...... the screen goes dark, and a rather demonic looking crow plops down on his hand... and seems to look him in the eye...then everything goes back to normal just as The Artillery starts blasting.

I think that the idea of a perception filter is spot on...... that people are having their thoughts altered, and Booker is subject to this aswell. It would make sense why that woman was still cleaning out her store in the middle of a blaze, and why no one stops that dead man in the automated news cart.

Combat, rail riding.... all fun..... you throw yourself inside a nearby bar, and everyone seems pretty chill...... they even offer to raise a tost in your honor. then the picture changes ( possibly the man in charge? ) and Booker gets shotgunned. ..... I was reading over the posting and I thought to myself " wait.... no one is reacting to the cannon fire outside.... because they cant hear it.... it's being blocked from their minds...... the reason that they ( most likely reasonable people) attack you is because either they have been brainwashed, or your image has been changed..... my thoughts as to the native war cry? ... they've been brainwashed in that moment to think that they're a warband.

This would also explain why Saltonstall is preaching to an empty park.... he sees people... and Dosent register you as a threat till you steal a gun. it's why people are told to be on the look out for fake Aryans ... because someone ( I'm thinking more than one) can alter your perceptions and make you see them as someone else.
