Space Marines (Game)

It's looking good, i think the 40k universe really needs an epic third person action game and this is shaping up to be a good contender. Also PC fans, gametrailers got it wrong (like they do sometimes ), the game is actually coming out for the PC, 360 and PS3.
Also, an interesting article on the game is here.

Anyway, I don't think people realise just how massive this game is going to be for 40k universe. Never before have you actually been able to take full control of an Astartes and bring self propelled War to the grime darkness of the 41st Millenium.
Relic have a fearsome reputation to live up to here as I have not been disappointed, in any way with any game I've played (I never played The Outfit ) and absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing, that has been shown so far is in any way disappointing. I've spotted a couple of minor fluff/techincal errors in the stuff I've been keeping my eye on for this, but nothing that would bother me at all and I imagine most of it would likely be related to the practicalities of the realm (ie., it's not easy to just pick up a dropped HB and ammo pack/belt feed, so they just cobbled together a HB frame and Stern Guard ammo mag).
This is easily my most anticipated game, well, ever really. It really is an exciting time to be a 40k gamer

No, I can assure you that I do not grow weary of this game because I prefer greenskin over ceramite armour. It is merely the fact that since this game's inception and fledgling stages, it has changed purpose. You were going to be thrown against the forces of Chaos into what looked like an era of 40k that happened just after the fall of Horus. Now it's decidedly post-Heresy and the Space Marines are fighting........Orks. Really? Couldn't there be a more interesting opponent? Sure, Orks are cool, but you see them pit against the Astartes at every single, bleeding turn. Guess the powers that be figured it would be more profitable to have a race with not much fighting skill go against the highly trained, extremely well disciplined Space Marines (yes, I do realize what I've just said, however, Orks make up for individual skill by hording massive numbers and a sort of low cunning that means they will not relent). I'd much rather tackle Eldar (or even Dark Eldar) or Chaos Marines over Ork (and no, that's not just because I'm a greenskin at heart).

It's an almost traditional criticism levelled against Relic when it comes to their games. Almost the same as "why always Smurfs?". Basically I think it is simply down to marketing. Relic think that Smurfs v Orks will sell, better than Sally's v Dark Eldar.....

Anyway i have my doubts that it's just going to be orks in the game, with such a expansive backstory it would be weird for a 40k game to just have two of the races.

Nooka, DID YOU SEE THE FIRST TRAILER?
I'm gonna cut it down, cause I can't find it, since it's from 2007 and the devs seem to have taken it down because they were ashamed of it:
The main character runs out of a temple, he's got a bolt pistol and a chainsword, outside is about 4 cultists with lasguns, SM then uses his bolt pistol (which fires like an SMG in the game) to STUN his enemies, in case you didn't know, a Bolt Pistol is essentially a .70 cal 6 shot rocketlauncher, He then proceeds to chainsaw them in insanely uncovincing ways, the PR guy starts talking about "Brutal Executions" (which means the SM sticks his chainsaw through them). Then a CSM shows up, The PR guy goes crazy and start ranting about how hard this guy is, the SM...hits him 4 times, then a quicktime event/mingame start WERE THEY START PUNCHING EACHOTHER! YES, WITH THEIR FISTS! WITH THEIR FISTS! I for one, prefer the new game.

We have learned from previous Relic games that orks rarely operate on their own. They are usually guided by someone with a more sophisticated agenda, so I hope we will still see the CSM in the game later on.
Orks alone would fill a game with mindless mass-splatting. That is just too dumb for a game of this universe.

You pretty much have to go to the codexes to find a non manipulated ork WAAAGH!

Yes, I vividly remember that preview, and I can honestly say that I prefer the original concept to the one that's out now. It had so much depth in it that the current trailer just doesn't seem to have. That little "mini-game" you mentioned is something that you were supposed to be able to go back under the game options and be able to play once you had gone through the level.
Edit: Always someone behind an Ork invasion?!? You're joking right? The Ork WAAAGH! isn't operated by some other being or race. That couldn't be farther from the truth. It originates from an Ork Warboss who stores and stockpiles enough greenskins and weaponry to go and ply the stars for new worlds. Of course, that's too simple of a plot for the masses to swallow, so to make it more palpable, Relic or THQ throw in the Eldar or Chaos as a driving force behind the Ork invasion. OH PLEASE! If you've ever read the lore behind the Ork, you'd know that anything the Eldar or Chaos has, the Orks don't really need/want. Power? Orks have that in spades, whether you're talking about individually, or as a sea of green. Greed? They don't really have greed, unless you consider them greedy for combat. Wealth? Orks have a completely different system of currency from every race, so money is no object to them. If they can't buy something, they'll just steal it (or as an Ork would say "borrow"). An Ork lives for 2 things: Speed and Combat. This probably explains why the Cult of Speed exists and why some Orks try to combine the two as best they can.

I didn't say that "there's always something behind a WAAAGH!" I know the lore well enough to know that's not how it is in verse, but every time a WAAAGH is in a game or BL book or...well ANYWERE, there's always some stupid chaos sorcerer or eldar farseer saying "just as planed".
It annoys me just as much as it annoys you, I wouldn't be named SquigPie if I didn't lurve da boyz now would i?

Necrons get nowhere near the attention the other races get (except for Tyranids, maybe) in 40K video games. Be glad that your favourite race is actually included in practically every game.

What I said was completely true. In Relics WH40k games, they give the orks a dark motivator. Whatever their real story in the warhammer lore, I was just talking about the games.
Also the story will undoubtedly be bigger than just Space Marines fighting to defend a world from the conquering orks. There is always something bigger going on which drives the story for CSM to come into play.
To me though it makes perfect sense. The ork populace may not be very controllable, but there are countless scenario's thinkable for more intelligent races to abuse the ork lust for war for their own purposes.

Most likely because 'semi-robots-with-no-soul' (which Necrons are in essence) aren't really good for a story. Look at the Terminators movie.
Even though I do agree with you (as a Necron fan).
