Does anyone know how to create/code a new super weapon?

Marine: Oh say can you seeeeeeeeeeeee! By the dawn's early Life!
Commander: No its Light! Not life, how many times do i have to say it Private?
Marine: Uh, sorry sir, i won't fail you this time!
Commander: *whispers to him self* sure you will. Lets take it from the top! One, Two, Three!
Marine: Oh say can you seeeeeeeeeeeee! By the dawn's early Light! O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly creaming.
Commander: No! *Sigh* what am i going to do with you soldier?

I think it is actually mostly particles that make up super weapon effects or if it is a totally new super weapon then you have to model it, texture it, code it, etc...

What i was thinking, is that you can take the tripods out of war of the worlds and put it as my new race's super weapon. It goes like this, there is a big earthquake, the ground breaks and sinks. what comes out of the ground is the big tripod that the Keruge put here on this earth many millenia ago. What it does, it charges up a big energy beam and shoots it in a circle around its self. it destroys infantry, most tanks, some buildings. The sinking of the land will cut the health of the building in half (Depends on which one it is). and then as it exits, it will shoot up in the air, leaving behind mass destruction.

Yeah..... sounds optimistic. Impossibly so methinks. Impossible for the SAGE engine to alter the terrain in such a way. You could theoretically have something like this land however, with a pretty hefty impact damage, followed by your massive laser beam idea, which I believe is codeable (no reason why not, really). The model & animations will be fun, however :xD:

Sounds really hard to do, but I think it is possible. Your going to have to create an illusion of the ground exploding with a really big particle effect and then have a lot of dirt and smoke with the camera shaking. Then your going to have to model a tripod and animated it and code it.

that sounds better. i will agree with the camera shaking on the landing part, and the hefty amount of damage. Sounds really cool, although I would like to know, should i take the particle uplink beam and use it for the tripods laser? I don't know much about animation, I am only 19 and not in school. could you teach me on how to code this kind of stuff?

I don't really know a lot about coding, sorry. :xD: I can model and texture though.

Personally? No, I can't. I'm pretty well-versed on the limitations and abilities of the SAGE engine run in Zero Hour, but from a coding perspective I'm far from being the most knowledgeable on the subject. The same applies for animation. Essentially, I'm a jack of all trades, but a master of most certainly none. There are certainly people a far bit more knowledgable on the subject than me here, however.

Frankly, your best bet is to get ahold of a few of the better mods for ZH (Think ShockWave, Rise of the Reds, European Conflict, etc), and to read through their codes, and work out where to go from there. A good start for your superweapon would be to look at the code for the Temple of Gaia in Shockwave - it's a superweapon that makes the screen shake, and alters the terrain from a texture point of view (cracks appear in the ground, but the terrain itself is unchanged, only the image laid over the top is actually changed).

As it is, these days, coders are few and far between in ZH communities. Your best bet is to look at what they left behind, in terms of Tutorials. Have a very useful linky for this:

EDIT: To answer some previous questions/points, you could, as Umbrella states, mask the emergence of the tripod using a large particle effect. The ground itself just will not be transformable, as I stated. And I'd say that a laser coming from the sky would probably not work too well when the tripods from War of the Worlds used heat rays from the tripods themselves - you would have to create a particle effect of your own, or at the very least alter the particle beam particle/texture to make it a little more heat ray-ish.

You will have go to each code for every unit and change the sides and make one faction the PlayerTemplate.ini folder and then have all command centers spawn when you start the game. I might be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure this is what you have to do.

I was wondering, i need to have a splash for the game. Could any of you create an menacing looking alien? sorry, i don't have any artistic skills otherwise i would do it myself. I know Photo-shop pretty well, but I don't know how to create an evil looking alien from scratch.

For future reference, never say this phrase again: "can yo do it for me please..."

The answer will always be "no".

If you need help you need to form a proper team. To get a team, you need to get people interested. To get people interested you need to show actual work.

Superweapons and splash screens are nice, but you should concentrate on smaller things first, like "actually" adding in your faction and units.

Then we can talk superweapons.
