Yeah, like Areze and a few others, I'm looking tp upgrade my PC pretty soon. As I'm going to be upgrading the lot of my rig, I have a few questions because my know-how of electronics is very limited .

Question one; A mother board that supports AMD Athlon/Phenom type processors cannot support an AMD Athlon/Phenom II, right? I've heard rumors that certain motherboards are backwards compatible with those sort of CPU's but I'd rather wait for a trusted opinion before making a econominal mistake.

Question two; My OS is Windows 7, is there a (safe) way to uninstall old motherboard drivers without needing to reformat? I've got quite a lot of stuff on my PC that I probably wouldn't be able to back up and I really, really, REALLY do not want to go through the hassle of recovering all of the programs and Steam games I have on my PC. I've already done some research on the matter and there are a few simple but risky routes, so I'm unsure.

Just to let you know, Steam games are very easy to transfer, all you need to do is copy the steamapps folder over.

Regardless of your files I would recommend you reformat anyway, yes it's a hassle but it will improve your performance, especially so because you're getting new hardware.

There were(and probably still are) a couple deals on newegg for 2 TB external HDDs for 100 USD. Get one of those, back up all of your data on it, and viola, you can use that for bulk storage and get a lightening fast internal HDD for yer games.

UPDAT: Here's a deal on a 2 TB USB 3.0 external HDD for 130 USD, and extra 40 bucks will net you another terabyte.

I know, but I'm sorta stubborn towards these types of situations. I'm also running off a cracked version of Windows 7, courtesy of my brother, and generally reinstalling that is a massive pain in the ass.

As said, I'd prefer not reformatting, but I shall keep this in mind .
