Then I democratically decide the North because of cheaper beer and nicer people. We could head up to York, a very pretty city where we can drink to our hearts content while looking over a river.

I think, on a democratic system, Wiz and I win 2 votes to 1 with London. Pack yer bags you old Northern fart ;)

AJ, you and Wiz get no votes for being soft Southeners. Hence democratically the North is selected.

Tom will have to come through London to go up north anyways, we'll just tell him horror stories and get him so pissed he can't move. He'll never make it out of the City ;)

Another vote for the north - even if I spend most of my time in the middle-ish.

If we end up in the middlish bit I will have to take Tom to the Black Country Museum where he can enjoy a days worth of my accent.

There are more breweries to visit up north, I'll grant you.

I could handle a weekend in Brum, but under protest.

Can't I get you to somewhere nice Wiz, Brum is a grim place to go out. You only head onto Broad Street if you want to catch something. Seriously York is a very pretty city and I'm sure you can get London prices so you'll feel at home.

Nope. York is way too far out of the way.

I have no desire to go out in Birmingham, find me somewhere nice to go out in the South. Note London is not nice.

We're meeting up for a laugh and probably a quite a few beers. Not to go wandering around castles and look at the scenery.... :/

York is far too far away for 3 of the 5 of us. Brum or London are the only real options imo.

Can you find somewhere for us to chat in a pub and get a pint of beer (not lager) for less than £5?

I know places in London that charge less than £5 for a pint.

As far as brum goes.

Good food, particularily pies (or so I'm told, I've not actually been here before) - http://www.oldjoints...k/rte.asp?id=10 - it's also a pub.
Good ales (supposedly, I'll stick to my cider thanks very much, they usually have some decent ones) - http://www.thewellingtonrealale.co.uk/

Going to be honest, the fact you have only two places on your list of nice places to go in Brum probably sums it up ;) I still reckon London would be best - pricier perhaps, but probably worth it :)

I'm a student, most places I eat/drink are on the cheaper side. Most pubs in harborne do real ales, but none to the level of the Wellington, which is why I didn't bother noting them down.

Besides, nobody besides myself has yet suggested any places, so 2 is better than nothing.

Note: I and probably others do aim to spend the night wherever it is we're drinking so this might be a factor worth considering too :P .
