Crazykenny if your friends rig is 3.7 GHz then the combined rating for all the cores must be around 12 GHz having said that its still a quad processor right? so i give it 7.9/10, if it had vista ultimate and 4GB it would have got 8.5/10 easy. the second system id say is 7.2/10. i know my scores arent outragous but they reflect the fact you can buy/build machines that are considerably faster/more powerful that the ones im rating, heck i only rate my set up 5.5/10 tops as its not perfect but maybe an extra 0.5 for the fact it is a laptop rig so 6.0/10.

ok my rig -

Those ratings are indeed outragous. With a overclocked Quad-Core processor and 2048MB of graphic processing power I can easily say its one, if not the, fastest PC on this forum.

So this might sound harsh but: Get your shit straight next time.

The DDR3 2GHz makes up for the 2GB plus its XP so its should be enough I believe. That laptop has 533MHz DDR2 memory. I can't imagine how costly two 4GB DDR3 sticks should be.

from kenny's format:

my laptop

Processor: 45nm Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9300 / 6MB L2 Cache, 2.50GHz, 800MHz FSB

I used to have one very similar to that - old PCs are old, but there's no shame in having one - 5/10

Windows XP Pro
Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06Ghz (Dual Core)
500Gb HDD
Nvidia Geforce 8800GS - 512Mb
4084 Mb RAM
24" Flatscreen LCD
Blutooth enabled
Bluetooth Keyboard and Laser 4-Button Mouse
Infrared Port and remote access
Inbuilt Webacm/Mic/Speakers/CD slot
In fact, everything in one single case... I wonder what it is? :P

So it also has Mac OsX and all of it's features, as well as the functionality of the PC.
It may not be ultra high spec, but it runs everything I own on highest quality - so no complaints at all.

4084mb RAM? Dont you mean 4096mb? :D

8/10 nonetheless, graphic card could use replacing.

Yeah my maths is off so sue me :D

As to the GFX card it runs everything i own at full spec, so it's of absolutely no need for replacing tbh.

You cannot upgrade anything but the memory and HDD on an iMac. Restrictive nonetheless, but means that all the graphics cards you can get for it (i.e. the ones which you can buy installed) are guaranteed to work. Apple probably could add a standard PCI card to the iMac but they only supply OS X drivers for graphics cards that they sell in Macs, although some graphics card makers supply their own OS X drivers for third party Mac Pro graphics cards.

My new, self-built system (just the important stuff):
AMD Athlon 64 x2 @ 3.1ghz
4gb DDR2 800 RAM
500gb HDD
ATI Radeon HD4870 1 gig
17" Gateway LCD from about 7 years ago
Motherboard onboard audio (since I can't figure out how to get the 4870's HD audio to work)
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1

Because the Phenoms still suck and I'd rather have AMD.

It still runs everything I throw at it perfectly, with the exception of Crysis. Which so ridiculously favored nVidia cards anyway that it's just plain stupid...

Intel is miles ahead of AMD right now with Core i7. The new Phenom 2s are just at the same level as the Core 2s I believe if not less.

Solid and durable technology. Intel processors tend to break down easier in my experience. I've had customers with Intel processors which got burned. And no, they're where not even overclocked. Perhaps a blunt statement, I dont know for sure, but AMD processors have a longer lifetime.
