Plasma USED to be the best for flatscreen because it wasn't so expensive to make large screened ones (42+ inches). But now, people are making large LCDs as well, Here is a thing that compares them: http://reviews.cnet....-3.html?tag=dir

They are both very good, it depends on what you want in the end. If you don't want just flat screen, but a big tv, check out the 'rear projection' section of the article, LCoS is looking pretty good, albeit expensive.

A good LCD, as plasma doesn´t last that long and the loss of quality can vary from pixel to pixel (so you´ll get the dead pixels later on :loel: ).

Golan, read the article i just posted, they have about same life now, plasma doesn't get dead pixels as much as LCDs, they get 'burn in'.

BUrn in is very different from dead pixels, it is kinda the opposite in a way. I mean burn in is what you get sometimes when you just buy the plasma, if you have a constant unmoving picture on screen, it might burn in and the picture or remnants of it will stay.

Well, burn in rarely happens now, unless you constantly watch stock markets which don't change much besides some little green/red number, and many plasmas have burn in reduction features and stuff to treat burn in.

Actually, both plasma and LCD are invulnerable to burn in. Also, if you are looking to buy a nice rear projection tv, remember this: Don't play video games on it!! This will ruin it. It happened to my cousin a while ago.

Plasma isn't 'invulnerable' to burn in, read the cnet article i posted, here is what it says for burn in under plasma:

"CNET" said:

Burn-in: You may have heard that plasma has a couple of drawbacks. One such downside is called burn-in, which occurs when an image--such as a stock ticker, a network logo, or letterbox bars--gets etched permanently onto the screen because it sits in one place too long. In our experience, the danger of burn-in has been greatly exaggerated, and people with normal viewing habits have nothing to worry about. The potential for burn-in is greatest during the first 100 or so hours of use, during which time you should keep contrast rather low (less than 50 percent) and avoid showing static images or letterbox bars on the screen for hours at a time. After this initial phase, plasma should be as durable as any television technology. Many panels also have burn-in-reduction features, such as screensavers and pixel orbiting, or settings to treat burn-in once it occurs, such as causing the screen to go all-white.

Well our plasma screen tv didn't get burn in at all. You could leave the game on pause for 12 hours straight, and there would be no static image left. Although, people should also realize that they should un-plug their TV during a thunderstorm. Thats how it broke :loel:

As said, most newer screens have ways to help prevent burn in, and most tvs never suffer brn in at all anymore. Anyways, just put it into one of those grounding things, like you plug it in and you get like 6 more plugs from it, it's not only to provide more plugs, it protects your stuff by grounding it. ANyways, that's gotta be kinda sad, i mean, a plasma tv is real nice and pretty expensive, it's musta been bad to lose it to a thunderstorm, did you get a new TV after that?

No, we had to use our old one, which is like 200 lbs, so it was a pain in the ass to drag it back upstairs.

Other way around my friend. LCDs are cheap cuz you can get them small, Plasma came in big screen before LCD because LCD is expensive to make in large sizes, LCD at about 50" is still more expensive than plasma, but the prices are almost th same.

OMFG, you people have to read the cnet article before posting, LCD is more expensive, that's why they only made large Plasma flatscreens before.

Hmm, I myself like CRTs best. They give best picture but they're damn bulky and heavy and size-limited. I would prefer LCDs to Plasmas. Plasmas suffer from burn-in which makes them less useful for day-to-day TV but better for movies coz they have realtively faster. On the other hand, LCDs get some motion blur (especially in cheaper ones) so action movies can seem a little weird, so they're better for day-to-day TV. One musn't forget rear projection TVs if you need an enormous 71-inch screen for around 6000$. When OLEDs arrive, these will be best. First long post for me :P
