So, apparently EA haven't given up on their C&C Free to Play project yet, it's just gonna land in another studio.

Well it was already quite obvious it was just politics that got the project aborted, but I can't believe they're still going with it Oo .

You know, it raise some expectations for EA after they saw Activision earned a billion from a shitty game like Ghosts. So they probably thinking if they advertise well, no need to scratch it, hell they may even earn hundreds of millions of bucks from a shitty game, just like they do all the time! |8
Take note; they will release it by changing some things over here and there but it will be basically the same thing as the beta.

You may even see they bring the old Thrax and perhaps a few one back and make some good looking teasers and cancel the beta so people will still buy it :P

Well, you don't need another Westwood to make a good rts. All you need to do is listen to fans carefully and implement what people liked most to the new game!

Every game was good, but then there were a lot less games. In addition, the games that were being made didn't need as big teams as they do today, also they didn't have to live up to an older generation of that Genre because most of the time they were starting from scratch.

If you want to find new games with interesting concepts, just play indie games as most of the time they are working to similar constraints of the 90s game dev teams. As in small teams, low budget, simple (retro) graphics ect.
Big game studios can't risk putting a lot of money (and it is a lot of money, even more than it costs to make films or any other entertainment medium) on something that could flop. They have to stick to safe concepts that work every time, introducing small changes and just generally being a bit boring.

My point is game developers haven't changed, if Westwood were still around (it's more than likely most of them are actually still making games for other companies) they'd be exactly the same as EA Victory (or whatever it was called) because EA is calling the shots. Double Fine (an independent studio) has tried creating innovative games, but because of the lack of limitations (hardware allows you to do anything, but in the 90s there was a limit) nearly every game they have created is lacking something, or is filled with too many ideas. It's like they are the opposite of the controlling EA, but they've gone too far and their projects always feel like they are missing something. Maybe the 90s and early 2000s had an unique period of were games were just becoming popular and the hardware and software limitations meant developers had to be creative and they didn't need to spend months creating one concept, it could be done in days.

I think what I'm trying to say is it's never going to be the same and that you should just enjoy the occasional indie game :P

I agree, in fact I'm loving all this indieness about. However, while some fantastic new titles have come out, a lot of old doors haven't been closed yet, and due to IP issues they can't be closed.

Also there is a reason like we are sated with games and can't enjoy the games as easily as we do 10 years ago. Because there were too much refreshing games and games were actually going better and better. It stopped going like this because they probably cannot think of something original yet good anymore.
Any fps they do now will look like something already done. It is so hard to come up with an original piece but not extreme.
Monster Hunter, Dawn of War, XCOM, these are all very original and good games for their genre. But they tend to fuck them up for the reason Dr stated.
Hundreds of people work in game companies and they are actually taking a risk when creating a game.
It is easy to please hardcore fans of a genre, but hard to please everyone. Thats why current gen games sucks - to us. All you had to do for hardcore fans of a game is just to improve it, make a good dlc and there, they will enjoy it again. But others will not.

Seriously though, Empire at War was a good game. Too bad they ruined their record with Universe at War after that.

Name an example in the list I posted earlier of a game of which you would say "wow, I really think it would be a bad thing if they made a true sequel to that" :P .
