Not sure how many people use Kindle (I'm kinda annoyed that I do with how shitty Amazon is), but if you wish to download your ebooks, do it now, as they are discontinuing the download function.

Discontinuing the download function of Kindle? That's like the most retarded decision ever.

Really liking Void War tbh, when it comes out I'm gonna buy it immediately. It's exactly like FTL except a bit smoother, and the universe is like 40k except it's actually cool.

It is a cheap copy of 40k.

God-King has fallen (God King = Emperor from 40k which is worshipped as God by the Imperium)
The Empire is in despair (Empire = Imperium of Man)
The Ruinous Cults sweep through the stars (Ruinous Cults = Chaos Cults in 40k, Chaos Gods also called as Ruinous Powers)
Command ancient starships (Starships aesthetic look exactly like in 40k)

Even the guy in the game's poster has textbook Space Marine features >_>

Doc asked a valid question...
It IS a valid question. It's clear where it got its inspiration.

But I find it a lot more Gothic in nature, it's much more serious and dark in tone, and there's no orcs. It feels more like sci-fi than high fantasy. It's also a lot more apocalyptic, it feels like the end of everything is either about to happen very soon, or you're already in it.

You just defined 40k...
And only silly thing in 40k is Orks, even then, their lore is actually quite good and makes sense, they just get portrayed in the games in a fun and silly way.

40k is so dark, Hellraiser is cartoon compared to some Chaos and Dark Eldar lore...

But then again, 40k is a vast universe (perhaps the largest made up universe out there) it is like Star Trek, not everyone likes lightsabers and force stuff |8
Honestly maybe it's just the orks for me then. Though bolters come pretty close, let's be honest. And all the units and tanks and ships too, come to think of it. And aliens. And the blood for the blood god thing, it just felt like the franchise was never meant to be serious, at all.

To me 40k always just seemed like a big joke. Basically Warcraft in spaaaace. Or rather, Warcraft was 40k on the ground. I can understand it if people like it, it's just not for me.

Units basically designed after tabletop versions of them. Games are fun and do not always reflect the "grimness" of the 40k:

Voice acting in old Dawn of War games is great, quite fun like in Generals :D

I guess a horror 40k game where you are playing as a captive of Dark Eldar Haemonculi would suit your tastes ;P

I get not liking something.

It seems like Doctor Who should totally be my bag, but I can't stand it (and I've tried to like it). I feel like it doesn't take itself seriously enough, so perhaps it's the same with you and 40k?

I guess serious tone makes it more "immersive"
Also, i second that about Doctor Who.

The series which i got most immersed in was Homeland. I watched no other series "on edge" like that one.

Eh, again the voice acting is quite funky. Generals wasn't meant to be very serious either.

I don't think a horror game would work very well, but an RPG like Void War clearly works better. Though like I said it's just dressed up, or perhaps more accurately dressed down, a lot as well, and that helps the feel a lot. No aliens, no orks, no voice acting, no bolters, etc.

Yeah I think so. I liked Doctor Who up to a point. I've tried watching the series twice but always lost interest somewhat early on. They had some cool concepts in there and it had classic British humour but at some point it just loses its edge for me.
