Also, most people have no idea of what they want, so it's easy for people just to be told what to watch.
Yeah, that's a fair point. Seems so silly though.

Then it loops back round to one of my favourite philosophical questions. Why do we want (to watch) anything, and what is the route of that interest?

I am fascinated by the origins of thought and influence!

I'm not sure why, often it's either something I think of and want to watch back, or something a friend recommended to me.

But why? Why dark and weird and not light and normal?

Because dark and weird is darker and weirder than light and normal. :cone:

At some point there has to be someone who has been recommended a show via a streaming service. I guess you're just letting your friends be the shit show filters :P

A lot of people watch new content based on the actors involved, I tend to watch adaptions from written material I like or new shows from directors/writers I've liked in the past. A while back I went through each year in the 90s and picked a film I've never seen that was well-received (Ronin for example, which was pretty good!).

Of course the idea has to come from somewhere. I'd just rather it be friends or even a video I choose to watch (e.g. "best upcoming horror films" or something like that) than just what some mega corp recommends.

Not only that, but it's the way it happens. Streaming services give you limited options and that's it, that's what they want you to watch. It's not a suggestion, it's that or nothing, they shovel their shit down your throat. A recommendation at least is optional.
