So I thought I'd just give it a go and use Gocompare to see how much in insurance an unexessive car in the UK would cost me.

lowest price: £4,303.63
highest price: £6,870.97

In other words they expect me to total it 4,53 to 7,23 times a year Oo .

WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Depends what you define an unexcessive car as.
An Audi B4 2.6 from 1995. But even a basic B3 1.8 worth £495 would cost me over £3500 annually oO!
You do realise outside of Continental Europe brands like BMW and Audi are considering 'luxury' brands.

It's definitely that way here, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same in the UK because of RHD.
Let's run through some others that are maybe not as conspicuous :P .

Mazda 323F: £2,598
Alfa 156 1.6: £3,828
Mitsubishi Galant 2.0: £4,149
Fiat Barchetta: £5,576

Even my old Merc (or rather a right-hand drive version of it) got a quote of £3500 a year - TEN TIMES what I paid in the NL :xD: .

Where the hell are you getting these quotes from? Try something like a Peugeot 206 or a standard BMW Mini or a VW Golf. :P
Gocompare.co.uk, they compare quotes from 119 insurance companies.

Though the Mini is a nice car, it's £3,487 to insure one at the least. The other two are not exciting enough - if I'd get a car it'd be as a hobby, not because I need one, because I don't :xD: . AND a 206 would be £2,782. .

Get something old, like a Peugeot 205? (although you won't want to crash one)

A basic £300 205 would be £2,647 to insure. So about 9 totals per year.

All these quotes are with minimal coverage and maximum voluntary excess btw :P .

Just for fun, I tried both:

Reliant Robin 0.8 L: £3,990 :rotfl:

Peel cars are not available or insurable it seems :xD: .

Going to really annoy you now - had a Mini Cooper S over the summer (epic car) and it was £1600 for a year. Fully comp too :P

Not that that is in any way a reasonable quote, but I guess it's because I'm from a LHD country :P .

Tbh I reckon if you rang an insurer and asked for ways to bring it down, I reckon they'd suggest doing something like a Pass Plus scheme to then drag the insurance down - it'll show you're capable on UK roads I'd have thought. https://www.gov.uk/pass-plus/overview

Why not? You can in the NL. Doesn't have to be in mint condition :P .
