This is so far easily the most productive and yet unproductive day of my whole PhD.

Me, the only person in my family that thinks putting Islamists in power isn't a good idea :duh:

Well, it was the same here, except you have to replace the "me" by "me and my family" and the "my family" by "the rest of the country"
But of course, Arabs are inherently stupid so they voted for islamists, so now we have crazy people going around preaching for legalizing rape, pedophilia, killing infidels. And the economy has gone right down the shitter. 8|

You know what is bad in my country ? We have islamists which " secretly " and sometimes publicly undermine what this country achieved so hardly over decades. And almost nobody gives a shit about our country turning into another Iran and guess why ? Economy, economy is much better compared to two decade ago and everyone hails the prime minister as a hero!
Our situation much like a cow's which going right into slaughterhouse but it have no idea since butcher giving him some nice herbs.
I wonder what Ataturk would think...

Here people support the Islamists because they think that hudud will deter thieves, never mind that the reason the thieves here are so bold is that they believe that they'll never be caught, even when the Brits hanged people for petty theft, people still stole things because they believed they could get away with it. There are reasons why my faith in my country is entering a tailspin.
Move to Australia. 8|

...just don't come on a boat.
What Bruce here meant to say was "if you never want to see another human being again and be surrounded by alien marsupial beings, move to Australia. 8| "

:P
I've been there and the situation was strangely inverted. I'll just chalk it up as an undescriptive experience.

In other news, I once was an Australian Permanent Resident. |8

S'funny, mine's gotten remarkably cheaper, don't have to buy anything for the folks now I've moved out... will probably still end up doing so though because I'm a softie D8

How does not living with your 'rents equate to not buying them a Christmas present? Have you turned into Scrooge McDuck in the last 9 months or something?

If you were a resident you must've been here for a while. What reason were you here for/what reason did you leave? Dad's work, I presume?

Where did you live?

Yeah, since I've moved out and am no longer a burden I actually feel more obliged to buy all of my immediate family presents.

Bob fixed the problem after many hours of work shoveling bat droppings out of the server room, it was just clogged up.

Of course not! I'm guessing it was AJ who let them all live in there (AJ being the nice person he is didn't want to kick them out). It is the true reason why AJ resigned, he couldn't face the inevitability of what he had done.

Lucky Bob cleared them up and got rid of them. We aren't allowed to keep Bats in the server. It's expressly against our hosting contract. As is renting it out for parties, bar mitzvahs, weddings and using it as a personal flotation device.

Well, my family had once considered emigrating to Australia, so we got permanent resident status given that we visited Australia every few years. However, the requirements changed later on requiring more frequent visits and we didn't have the time to visit more frequently so that was it. My father did go for work once, but that was after the permanent resident status had lapsed. I've been to the Gold Coast and Perth (no run ins with a certain Major Fuckup yet) so far.

For something totally unrelated, are the people here protesting over the rare earth plant suffering from a total disconnect from reality, or have I been in the vicinity of Tiberium for far too long?

Well the whole point of permanent residency is you're supposed to be a resident permanently. :xD:

I mean, my roommate has been here for ~3-4 years and he is still not a resident.

In other news, this happened today:
