I mean I know Doom isn't known for its particularly deep storyline, but they arguably made it WORSE with that whole Doom Slayer crap. Part of the fun of the original was that you were "just a guy" and effectively a badass - the modern version completely takes that away.

YOU ARE WRONG. Modern version is much better.
"Just a guy" (even if he is badass) can't deal with whats happening even at the beginning of the game.
I liked the story of Doom 2016. Even though they still didn't nail the hell (Mars facilities feel much creepier than hell...) i hope they make a proper hell in the upcoming game!

Got the hang of it myself after a few hours! Beating the campaign the second time now. About a quarter done, on normal mode this time

Haha yeah, there's dozens and dozens of "keycap artists", sometimes even whole studios, that make stuff like this - usually it's extremely expensive as well!

I know people that have spent thousands of dollars on "artisan" keycaps like that. Fully decked out they tend to barely resemble keyboards anymore . Such as this one:
