My computer can't really take No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous is an MMO and a bit grindy but yeah, that's more the sort of space sim that I like. Something free-form where you make your own story and have lots of options.

My ideal space sim would probably be a game with the mechanics of Star Valor and the depth of Star Sector. Star valor plays great but needs more stuff to do and Star Sector has insane depth but plays like a plank of wood.

Perhaps blur a copy of the edit, export it, overlay it and then animate the opacity?
