Homeland is one of those shows where I'm pretty sure I've watched 3/4 of it but I can't remember a single thing.

I loved the series and it ended perfectly too.

And yes, that scene was quite memorable. That being done to one of my favourite characters was also extra distressing.

There is also a quite intense episode in last season which i think you will like. They really captured "the brink of the conflict" there, it was amazing.
