Many of us in Europe have lived in luxury and perceived stability for so long that it's easy to lose sight of alternative futures filled with horror.

With mass inequality on the rise, our counties will only become more unstable until something changes -- swinging left or right -- as years of trickle down economics and neoliberalism has disastrously failed. Working hard no longer pays enough to afford food, rent and a life. In the UK I worry that the incoming Labour government will be flaccid and only attempt to carry on 'centrist' principles, to only be destroyed by the rising populist fascist (fuck calling it far right, lets just name it what it is).

Probably worth remembering that Niemöller was a Nazi and anti-semite himself. There is still hope for good people.

He was one of the people who was sold Nazi fascism, which then ultimately betrayed him. The same kind of people today are voting for nationalist parties in fear of an encroaching 'invasion' by a demonised religious group.
