Bad exposition, bad exposition, and more bad exposition. My god too many animes have writers that have no idea how to properly reveal backstory. Granted a lot of animes have really dense universes so that leads to dense scripts, but I don't want to hear a freaking saga every time someone opens their mouth. There are far superior methods of exposition than enormous monologues. Although the problems are compounded by series where episodes have to be out on a regular schedule. Even less time to work on it then.
