Church backs confession Apple

Catholic bishops have given their backing to a new way of confessing for sinners in a hurry - by mobile phone.

The new iPhone and iPad app allows users to make confession with a virtual "priest" over the internet.

It does not replace traditional confession but provides a digital alternative that can be used anywhere.

Confession: A Roman Catholic App offers "a personalized examination of conscience for each user", according to its makers.

The "confession" button opens a screen that begins: "In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit."

A series of sin check-boxes invites the penitent to declare whether they have offended their parents, their family or, if a child, failed to tidy their bedroom.

The "next" button then brings up one of the Acts of Contrition followed by, "Receive Absolution and respond, Amen".

Pressing the "finish" button brings up a spiritual quotation from a Catholic saint such as Frances de Sales or Catherine of Siena.

Senior church officials in Britain and the US have approved the app, which they say can be used by Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

A spokesman for the Catholic bishops of England and Wales said: "The new 'confession' iPhone app is a useful tool to help people prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation."

*facepalms* They are not using anything of the cremated body, but the heat generated by the incinerator itself. There would be little to no difference to use the fire directly.

As long as the dark foundation of our nature, grim in its all-encompassing egoism, mad in its drive to make that egoism into reality, to devour everything and to define everything by itself, as long as that foundation is visible, as long as this truly original sin exists within us, we have no business here and there is no logical answer to our existence.
Imagine a group of people who are all blind, deaf and slightly demented and suddenly someone in the crowd asks, "What are we to do?"... The only possible answer is, "Look for a cure". Until you are cured, there is nothing you can do.
And since you don't believe you are sick, there can be no cure.

in fact, i'd even be thrilled to have my body be of some use after my death, be it for convenience or science.

however, this isn't even the case as it's actually the crematorium's heat that's used (as stated above).

I plan on not leaving much of a corpse and what i leave it will be spread out pretty far! Live hard and leave a beautiful corpse... Bah i say!

I question the general assumption that i am inherently deficient in the area of grammar and sentence structure

Predictive text error leads UK man to fatally stab friend

A MAN was stabbed to death by a friend over a text message misunderstanding, a British court has heard.

Neil Brook, of Salford, northern England, was convicted of manslaughter after he "lost it" and killed friend and neighbor Josef Witkowski over a series of misspelled text messages sent between the pair, The Bolton News reported.

Brook, 33, told police he sent 27-year-old Witkowski a joking text message containing the word "mutter," a local colloquialism for a person who behaves in an antisocial or vulgar manner.

However, because of his phone's predictive text program, the message appeared as "What are you on about nutter?" a derogatory British slang word for "deranged."

Witkowski took offence and went to Brook's apartment with a knife, the court heard, but was instead stabbed by Brook and suffered 104 separate injuries in the attack.

Judge Michael Henshell, speaking at Manchester Crown Court, told Brooks that "obviously, the sentence will be a long one."

As Wiz said, It's Salford, which is a massive shithole. These are the kind of people who will massively over-react to a given situation. I've been chased before by several guys because I walked across their street and didn't pay them respect or something. Good thing I'm a fast runner.

Compulsions drive people to do very strange and unusual things. But eating couch cushions? That may very well be the strangest yet. Adele, a 30-year-old woman from Bradenton, Fla., recently came forward on a TV show about her bizarre taste for foam materials. The woman is featured on the TLC program "My Strange Addiction" munching on bite-sized pieces of sofa stuffing -- and even going so far as to prepare snack-sized servings of couch cushions. The show has already highlighted people who are addicted to tanning booths, ventriloquism and rock collecting, and others who eat any manner of strange things, including toilet paper and kitchen cleanser, but the episode on Adele's couch-consuming habit might be the most compelling yet. According to psychologist Jason Mihalko, Adele's behavior presents very much like a condition called pica. "[Pica i"] characterized by an individual having a desire to eat nonfood substances," Mihalko told AOL News. "It's most often seen in young children and women."

"There are cases of pica where people eat metal, dirt, feces, chalk, writing utensils and [tree] sap," he said.

As for what might drive a person to eat such strange material? Well, the truth is no one really knows.

"The research on pica is scant," Mihalko explained. "Some research points toward a mineral deficiency, while the more recent thinking is that pica is more closely related to obsessive compulsive disorder."

Mihalko told AOL News that if he were assessing Adele -- or any of the other people featured on "My Strange Addiction" -- he would do a complete assessment for obsessive compulsive disorder, also known as OCD.

"[Some] people with OCD get relief from enormous amounts of stress when they engage in whatever their particular behavior is, whether it be checking locks, washing hands or other obsessive behavior, while some experience enormous stress in engaging in these behaviors."

And what can be done about an obsession with eating couch cushions?

Mihalko suggested that if the couch eating were a method of getting relief or maintaining control, he would try to help her learn different ways to alleviate her stress.

"I'd want to teach her other skills that could provide relief that would be safer [than eating foam material]."

Nokia's mobile phone for Buddhist monks

Nokia has presented a unique cell phone for the Buddhist monks - with the circular shape to define tranquility, the red color to represent the robe and the rotatable design similar to a prayer wheel, the concept of Buddhist monks has totally integrated in this handset.

诺基亚日前推出了一款独一无二的“僧侣手机”——部分圆形设计寓指“与世无争”,红色代表僧袍,而可旋转的特性与转经筒相似,整个手机与人们对佛教僧侣的理解融为一体。

Man wrapped like mummy uses hatchet to rob gas station

HERMINIE, Pa. — State police in Greensburg are investigating an unusual armed robbery at a Westmoreland County gas station.

Trooper Stephen Limani said a man robbed the Buy 'n Fly in Herminie on Monday afternoon after wrapping himself in fabric to conceal his identity.

"We're told he almost had the appearance of a mummy," Limani told Channel 4 Action News' Jennifer Miele.

Limani also said the man used a hatchet to threaten the clerk.

The robber got away with undisclosed amount of cash. There were no injuries, police said.

Investigators are viewing surveillance video of the robber.

So far, police have not announced any arrests.

Man had blade in face for four years

Posted Image

Doctors in China examined a patient complaining of headaches and a bad taste in his mouth - and found a 4ins blade buried in his face.

They say it had been in Li Fu's face for four years without his knowledge, since he was stabbed in a robbery while working as a cab driver.

Doctor Xu Wen, vice-director of stomatology at Yu Xi City People's Hospital, said: "We were amazed to see such a long blade in his face.

"And it's even more amazing to think that the blade had been there for more than four years and the patient was still living without too many problems."

He is now recovering after surgeons removed the blade, which had penetrated his tongue root, muscles and brain, in a complicated four hour operation.

Li, 37, of Yuanjiang County, Yunnan Province, was stabbed in September, 2006, after he resisted a knifepoint robbery.

He was treated at a local hospital where doctors cleaned his wound and gave him disinfectant shots.

"The wound healed up gradually and I didn't have any other symptoms, so I didn't think of having further checkups," said Li.

Police later caught the criminal and found the broken knife handle - but they never found the blade until Li was x-rayed at a county hospital.

Doctors there referred him to Yu Xi City People's Hospital which agreed to waive some of the £5,000 fees for the complex operation.
