Senior church officials in Britain and the US have approved the app, which they say can be used by Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

A spokesman for the Catholic bishops of England and Wales said: "The new 'confession' iPhone app is a useful tool to help people prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation."

Predictive text error leads UK man to fatally stab friend

A MAN was stabbed to death by a friend over a text message misunderstanding, a British court has heard.

Neil Brook, of Salford, northern England, was convicted of manslaughter after he "lost it" and killed friend and neighbor Josef Witkowski over a series of misspelled text messages sent between the pair, The Bolton News reported.

Brook, 33, told police he sent 27-year-old Witkowski a joking text message containing the word "mutter," a local colloquialism for a person who behaves in an antisocial or vulgar manner.

However, because of his phone's predictive text program, the message appeared as "What are you on about nutter?" a derogatory British slang word for "deranged."

Witkowski took offence and went to Brook's apartment with a knife, the court heard, but was instead stabbed by Brook and suffered 104 separate injuries in the attack.

Judge Michael Henshell, speaking at Manchester Crown Court, told Brooks that "obviously, the sentence will be a long one."

"[Some] people with OCD get relief from enormous amounts of stress when they engage in whatever their particular behavior is, whether it be checking locks, washing hands or other obsessive behavior, while some experience enormous stress in engaging in these behaviors."

And what can be done about an obsession with eating couch cushions?

Mihalko suggested that if the couch eating were a method of getting relief or maintaining control, he would try to help her learn different ways to alleviate her stress.

"I'd want to teach her other skills that could provide relief that would be safer [than eating foam material]."

HERMINIE, Pa. — State police in Greensburg are investigating an unusual armed robbery at a Westmoreland County gas station.

Trooper Stephen Limani said a man robbed the Buy 'n Fly in Herminie on Monday afternoon after wrapping himself in fabric to conceal his identity.

"We're told he almost had the appearance of a mummy," Limani told Channel 4 Action News' Jennifer Miele.

Limani also said the man used a hatchet to threaten the clerk.

The robber got away with undisclosed amount of cash. There were no injuries, police said.

Investigators are viewing surveillance video of the robber.

So far, police have not announced any arrests.

Doctors in China examined a patient complaining of headaches and a bad taste in his mouth - and found a 4ins blade buried in his face.

They say it had been in Li Fu's face for four years without his knowledge, since he was stabbed in a robbery while working as a cab driver.

Doctor Xu Wen, vice-director of stomatology at Yu Xi City People's Hospital, said: "We were amazed to see such a long blade in his face.

"And it's even more amazing to think that the blade had been there for more than four years and the patient was still living without too many problems."

He is now recovering after surgeons removed the blade, which had penetrated his tongue root, muscles and brain, in a complicated four hour operation.

Li, 37, of Yuanjiang County, Yunnan Province, was stabbed in September, 2006, after he resisted a knifepoint robbery.

He was treated at a local hospital where doctors cleaned his wound and gave him disinfectant shots.

"The wound healed up gradually and I didn't have any other symptoms, so I didn't think of having further checkups," said Li.

Police later caught the criminal and found the broken knife handle - but they never found the blade until Li was x-rayed at a county hospital.

Doctors there referred him to Yu Xi City People's Hospital which agreed to waive some of the £5,000 fees for the complex operation.
