I understand the PC to be basically the DE2 but without politics. This would mean, then, that it is still the place for the discussion of deeper, more in-depth topics that are neither;

a) spam
b) gaming-related
c) fit for the "general public" of the forum.

I don't find the PC to be purely for discussion of Philosophy, Theology, etc. Therefore, I believe it may need renaming to avoid further confusion of its purpose.

Agreed. Why not just something like Deep End 2.0 ;)

;)

But in all seriousness... that may bring back elements of the old DE that were unwanted. I just figure it needs a broader title so posters can well... post something other than philosophy (as I've taken the liberty to do...)

I remember FileFront forums has something they called "The Pub" (In reference to bars, and the fact that most men retire there at the end of the day to discuss their life's problems).

Maybe something like that? After all, it is for a similar purpose.

The Pub probaly wouldn't fit in with the other forums names. It's name has the right meaning but it sounds out of place

I kinda thought it wouldn't be fitting either... but like Iron_Golem said, it suits its purpose.

I wonder what the mods would say about this.

You know, renaming the Deep End w/o politics was something we the Staff kind of struggled with. On one hand, we figured the masses would rather we keep the name "Deep End". Afterall, that name had been here since most of us can remember. The other issue was, we wanted to create a new section that could be differentiated from the old Deep End. Yes, the name "Deep End" carried with it the notion that topics could be discussed in a more in-depth fashion, but too many times those filthy political matters crept in. Too many times headaches arose from the Deep End. Our "aspirin" for that headache was to come up with the Philosopher's Corner. Philosophy doesn't just cover Theology, but one's own take on life. Because of the political thread problems in the past, there are strict rules against posting such topics in the Philospher's Corner.

"The Pub", nor "The Bar" fit this forum, since neither alcoholic beverages are served here (the person who invents e-beer would have one heck of a hurdle to overcome), nor do they fit the overall theme of the forum. Yes, a few meaningful discussions happen at a pub, but generally conversation at a bar is a cheap pick-up line, sports, and/or what the best beer is. Nice try, but keep trying :D .

In all honesty, I believe the name change from "Deep End" to what it stands at currently is fine. Politics is off the forum, and the threat those kind of topics brought to the forum has diminished with the demise of the Deep End.

Nuker

Not to nit pick, but that last comment was bullocks. The Deep End's politics only polluted itself and I never saw the hatred carry outside, it was remarkable, but true.

Anyway, I still don't think philosophy covers it all...

Look at the situation through my eyes δαίμονας. Though it might never have spilled into other threads on the forum, if it would have the results wouldn't have been pretty. It was done as a preventive measure. So like it or not, it was done.

Well then how's this then? A topic about relationships and such is not considered fit for the Philosopher's corner because it is not philosophy, yet you say the 'corner' is for in-depth discussion about life. How is this true then if relationship problems are not considered philosophy when they make up a large part of real life?

:D

Iwas going to comment in some of those topics about how they didn't have anything to do with the forum, but luckily I saw this topic before posting. Besides, Philosphers Corner abbrvieated sounds like Politically Correct, which is most likely the total opposite of what the PC is.Problem is, the Deep End is the perfect name for the PC, unlike the original DE,in which most of the conversation was pretty shallow.

In light of Teh Hunter's latest phase of daemonic possesion, maybe we should call it The Warp.

What's the name of that Roman/Greek place where their greatest philosophers discussed? Maybe we can call it that.

What about just "The Corner"? Same description, but it removes the philosophy side from it.

Yeah, right, so all of us philosophers are just shoved into the corner where nobody cares about us. That sounds real good. :loels:

Maybe Agora would be more fitting? Perhaps even Akademeia or Gymnasium.

Definitely not Gymnasium...

Why not just The Academy?

Oh but you see, in ancient Greece these were used by the intellectuals as well. The Academy sounds a little plain to describe a particular theme.

And yet, this is not ancient Greece and in the modern world, gyms are places to work out, generally...
