TRON:LEGACY 7/10

Visuals that literally made my eyes pop. WOW. Excellent soundtrack by the legendary duo Daft Punk
Story was weak though imo it was no worse than Avatar. Lots of subplots could have been developed. Lead actor was weak imo but Jeff Bridges did well, and Olivia Wilde was pleasing eye candy.

As to what RaiDK said, don't forget that Flynn was designing a world for humans, so there would be some of those things. Only the programs reinventing itself is unusual though theoretically, an AI should be able to do so. IMO the premise that a program can be embodied as a human lifeform makes far less sense.

Yeah, I can understand that - However based on the original I think that's an absolutely terrible route to take lore-wise as the 'new' look is a lot more generic than the old one. That's what made the original so appealing: The fact that it DIDN'T look like anything in our world. I have no idea why they'd ever think turning such an interesting premise into a generic bla-bla-bla-utopian-society thing would be a good idea.

I guess I was just expecting something comparable to the original. Though thinking about it now the original had a VERY niche appeal - you couldn't really market something like that to the masses.

Tron Legacy - Loved it, great atmosphere, great visuals and good acting. It was also nice for a sort of romance to play out somewhat properly not just " spontaneous snogging " so I give Kudos to Olivia Wilde and the scriptwriters for that. I also didn't have to see it in waste your money for a gimmick 3D, which is always a bonus

The Kings Speech - A pretty wonderful movie, it's not marketed as a comedy and nor should it be but it has enough funny moments to make you laugh, but not enough to make it light hearted. It's a pretty powerful film and features great acting and realistic character development. It's also just a nice film, not in the OTT patronising "Feel Good" way but in a subtler more impressive way. This isn't my typical kind of film and I was quite skeptical, but its really rather good.

I don't think I've ever seen such a soulless, heartless movie in a long time. Nor have I been so utterly depressed watching, of all things, a Disney movie. It's just so amazingly morbid from start to end.

It was cheesy enough for the fans but nice an accessible for other people. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

It was pretty decent up until the climax when it just became predictable and abysmal and boring to watch. The moment they said "herp a derp go to the house follow the scary men" I called aliens. Fast forward five minutes, and what do you know? I was right! I took another guess, it being "Only the two faggot kids get to live so they can do some Adam & Eve crap." and I was so right it was horribly funny.

The worst part about these kinds of movies is that they tie the bible in with the apocalypse in subtle ways, and make everyone die. It'd have been so much more interesting if they had spun the whole "Hurr everyone floats into heaven" part into a "Hurr aliens save everyone on Earth at the last minute and then the world burns."

tl;dr - This movie is boring, predictable, and Lord of War is the only movie starring Nicholas Cage that I like.

Martyrs - X/10

In a similar way to "A Serbian Film", the film is almost impossible to rate. I wouldn't really say i enjoyed it at all but i guess it achieves its aims well. A part of an IMDB review sums it up very nicely - " I hope like myself you have come away with a genuine sense of having seen something the like of which we are unlikely to see for some time.."

This film is definitely no shrinking violet. As a flat, we tried to find "horror" films of increasing potency and i think we have met our match with this.

Definitely one of the better films of the last decade, pretty much should by a must-watch on anyone's list as I'm pretty sure anyone who doesn't think Michael Bay is the best director will enjoy it. As Ion stated, the humour is very well written into the story and the performances are very, very convinced. Rush gives one of his best performances, Firth was brilliant and Helena Bonham-Carter provided a well acted supporting role as well.

This is an example of actors making a film, not a film making actors.

I recently watched Sanctum in 3D. I have to say that the plot was very paper thin and ridiculously predictable. The acting was very bad for the most part except maybe the lead actor (the father). The visuals and score were really good though, and somehow, I was able to get emotionally connected in the right moments. The movie got my heart racing at times and made me angry as well. So for that it redeems itself from utter failure. 6/10

Daybreakers

A plague has turned most of the human population into vampires, most of the remaining human population is being farmed for their blood, but there isn't enough to go around. (Vampire) scientists attempt to create a blood substitute as the situation becomes more and more dire.

Overall, it was a pretty decent film. It's an interesting storyline to take, but it would have been good to see more backstory. Some things didn't make complete sense, for example, why would the (new) cars have completely blacked out windows, why not just have a 2-way mirror or something? Some of the visuals were a bit dodgy at times, but nothing bad enough to distract from the story.

A thriller with the premise of mobile phones being integrated into the plot. Sounds pretty silly, well it is in parts, but i felt this added to the film. Written by the same guy who wrote Phone Booth (he likes phones i guess ) the film follows another phone related plot, but the two films aren't that similar.

If you like thrillers, then it's worth a watch.
