You missed a lot off that list if you're involving metal and rock.
But I supposed you're never gonna get all of them.
and Don't believe what you hear about Slipknot, there are alot of haters. But the interpretation of their music is down to the listner, not the critic. despite what you hear it's not just noise, it has beat, it has lyrics, it has feeling and emotion.
I urge you to at least check them out.
But from that list, it'd be Metallica, althought every night Metallica do check under their bed for Lemmy (Motorhead)

I think there are too many bands to mention. I suggest changing the bands to metal types (IE nu metal, black metal, death metal, etc...) if you can change the poll's choices :P

Nah, it could be squeezed down to about 50-75. That would be most of the mainstream ones anyway. You should also be careful what you term as metal. Metal has loads and loads of sub genre's. For example metallica sound nothing like Children of Bodom.

if im going to nitpick, (and i am :)) theyre classed as "extreme gothic metal" atm, but were death metal in their very very early demo days

Theres many different styles of death metal alone. And once you listen to alot. You can tell the difference. Because alot of death metal bands have been around for a long time sometimes they have a different style every other album as well. Compare IF Clayman to IF Come Clarity, completely different sound.

as this is about ROCK/metal surely GnR and led zeppelin have to feature highly
both of these bands wrote some truly amazing songs
true, they aren't metal but they are 2 of the best rock bands you'll ever hear

edit - as i read title wrong when i posted.

neither of these bands are metal rock but for pure rock, they are unbeatable

Mike

Who the hell is SOAD? and who hear lisens to DragonForce?

SOAD is a bit of an over-rated band. I personally think a lot of their songs sound very alike.

Dragonforce is pretty good but they have the exact same pattern in almost every one of their songs and it gets old really fast.

It was a very hard choice between Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath but I chose Iron Maiden. I just like more songs by them.

THE HARDEST METAL KNOWN TO MAN.

What do you mean by "hardest metal?" Do you mean heaviest? If so, then I'd have to disagree completely. I know several bands that are much heavier than Dragonforce.
