This is the Monster from Macross, Making dynamic entry... It appears once again in Macross frontier, the next episode, which airs tomorrow, to be exact because the gif was taken from the preview... Ever since the Begining of april(?)Macross has continued Airing, after the Deculture edition of episode 1 which aired some time in 2007.

It's set In a post apocalyptic world where Much of Earth was swallowed by the sea, resulting from the excessive use of fossil fuels. I believe It's relevant to the affairs of today.
