Is this real? It looks too militaristic to be a ShW-created diagram.

What do they call them? They would be terrifying if well inside friendly territory with that range...

I've seen that picture a while ago, pretty much around the time the ShW Hammercannon was first revealed to the public.
If it's real, it has to be one nasty piece of work. Kind of reminds me of those old railway-guns.

Look at it this way. Across the image is a very large red stamp, and though I don't speak Chinese, I would bet a very large amount of money that it says words to the effect of 'TOP SECRET'. So if this is indeed a real PLA program, what the hell is a top-secret program concept with detailed specifications doing on a GAMING FORUM? It just doesn't add up. Somehow I think this was drawn by someone as a cool and awesome prototype for what they hope will someday become a part of the PLA's arsenal (or was done by the SWR team - I wouldn't put it past them), but who is not connected to the military. Or it's a very serious breach of Chinese national security that has so far gone unnoticed because it's so implausible, but I don't really think so.
I do not intend to call anyone a liar, but given that the options are that this is actually a PLA document, in which case it would be top secret, or that it was a piece of non-military art, I'd go for the latter.

As much as I'd love for this baby to be real, I sincerely doubt it. I mean, the gun is vertical, so any shell with a decent speed will be sent on a free trip to infinity and beyond, and that projected trajectory just looks ridiculous.

Rocket-assisted shell anyone? Why do you think the shell is that huge? It ain't for a bigger bang on impact...

Well, ramjet-assisted, but I see your point all the same. The problem is that six hundred kilometres is frankly ridiculous when you consider that the range of the most advanced projectiles from the biggest gun currently in service is much, less than one hundred kilometres in fact I believe approximately fifty. And the flight path makes me think of a complicated tactical ballistic missile, not an assisted shell. I mean, how the hell is a shell going to manoeuvre through that little wiggle halfway through the trajectory? If it's complicated enough to do that, you might as well use a missile.
Edit - a quick search turned this up:
http://forum.cncreneclips.com/index.php?sh...\Evidently it wasn't done by the ShockWave team (I didn't think it was) but that still doesn't explain how a weapon concept with 'TOP SECRET' emblazoned across it in big letters ends up on a gaming forum if it's real.

Also, here's a quick translation of the page from the above thread:

"It uses a smooth barrel to fire a shell which flies at 1500m/s which triggers the pressure engine in the shell, the shell is propelled by several explosions inside the same barrel, going off in sequence as the projectile travels the length of the barrel. The principle for the subsequent explosions is the same as a ram jet engine, compression of air and an injection of flammable liquid. The shell is then propelled into the higher and less dense regions of the atmosphere. It has an accuracy of 250m. And the barrel corrects itself, due to the recoil, to the target after each shot.

Barrel size: 400mm
Shell size: 300mm
Warhead weight: 250 kg
Reload/Firing delay: 2 rounds/min
Range: 600 km

On the diagram besides the text on the top right hand corner:

It says in the first text box: "Enters flying course, glides/flies automatically and engages target."

Second: "Enters terminal velocity and the inner region of the atmosphere or something of that rather, engages air-compression engine, and adjusts course."

Third: "Enters the higher region of the atmosphere and the shell changes course."

Fourth: "Shell's re-entry prevents any loss of momentum and ensures the shell gains high velocity (as you can see the angle at which the shell enters)."

Cross-section of the shell:
Warhead: 1500~2000mm
Engine part of the shell which includes solid fuel and guidance system: 1000mm
Explosive charges which sets off inside the barrel to propel the projectile.

Warhead types:
HE
Bunker buster
Anti-ship
Nuclear
and under the heading of Nuclear: Shockwave, Radiation and Pressure?

Shell type:
Cluster missiles:
Anti-armour seekers
HEAT rounds
Napalm
Small low-Earth orbit satellite
Anti-satellite rounds?

Positions:
One with the shell visible: reloading
One with the barrel to the ground: firing."

Also, did you notice the cargo ship in the bottom left corner? I only just did. That thing looks like the container ship from hell!

Translating it in Chinese, so far, it's saying ramjet, GPS + Gyroscope guidance, multi-choice warheads, 2 rds/minute and it's supposed to be loaded onto covert container ships for massive damage and quick + mass deployment.

You wouldn't need this thing to hit Taiwan from China, I'm fairly sure more conventional artillery has that range.

I know, but they'd become a propaganda tool since it's bigass and powerful. It can also attack other side of Taiwan without wasting BMs to attack it.

I agree with JB, it's obviously "top secret" if it's even real. While I'm not doubting its existance in the PLA's arsenal, I dont have any tangible facts that it IS in the PLA's arsenal. In any case, it's kind of nice to see the hammer cannon outside of shockwave.

As for FHSSFCS, what is your problem with taiwan? You sound like you want China to completely obliterate the entire country.

That matter has been dealt with by the staff, please continue without drawing politics onto the forum.

Taiwan is a hot topic and something that's not fit for a gamer's board, let alone the warfare section thereof.

@Sharp: Normal artillery has 30-50 km range, that BFG has 600.
