Was there really a need for that sort of language? We have kids who read this forum. Try and use some maturity next time.

Interestingly, despite everything I believed before the release of RA3, I actually ended up rooting for the Empire throughout the singleplayer.
Japan? Awesome battleships, high-tech samurai, and the most civilised look/overall appeal

Keep in mind that their "Emperor" is still a self-important nutjob who suffers from delusions of grandeur.

Civilised? The Empire are still essentially an autocracy and a bunch of Imperialist brutes trying to conquer the world.

At least they don't have to steep as low as turning innocent animals into blood-thirsty fighting machines and sending them to die at
the front line. Also, they do not freeze you up with an ice beam or liquify your flesh by dropping acrid, green goo on your sorry loaf.

But they do experiment on people, in the process, killing some of them, while the survivors have losttheir sanity and have been turned into living biological weapons who can melt people's brains just by looking at them. They also send their men off in cramped two-man submarines which can neither shoot far, hit hard, or last longer than a few hours to suicidally ram enemy vessels.

It's all down to the doctrine I guess. Submarine crews have always had the short end of the stick since WWII.

Kinda true. The Soviet Akula crews in RA3 aren't that much better off I guess...So much pressure!
Plus, they're expected to sacrifice themselves as well. Not necessarily through kamikaze but as in fighting to the death.

Submarine warfare always involved the risk of sacrificing the submarine to go for an important target - now more than ever with aircraft carriers. You may be lucky enough to slip in quietly and get a shot off, but heaven help you getting out again afterward if the hornet's nest you've stirred up among its escort group...

Excuse me asking, but what does submarine warfare have to do with the Red Alert 3 expansion?

Well, it's tangentially related to RA3 units and this is currently the only active thread about the game.
It may not have much to do with the expansion but then again, it's hardly worth opening up a new topic or reviving an even older, perhaps more fitting one...

Because it involves justification for the apparent mental states, and thus design approach, for the submarine units in the game, which was under discussion?

That's like me starting a discussion about Oranges in here because ye seafaring Japanese need it to prevent scurvy.

It's barely related and irrelevant.

Very well, since you appear to have a bone to pick here, let me put it out clearly.
A discussion is started about Red Alert 3.
Discussion takes place on the factions in Red Alert 3: Uprising and their respective good and bad points. One of these points relates to how they treat people and the example of submarines is raised.
I relate the latter example to real life in an attempt to show how it does not in fact necessarily reflect on the faction in question, thus enhancing the larger debate.
Need I further justify to you why I post what I do?

I'll wait for the retail version.

Buying a game that is ethereal isn't something that I can bring myself to do just yet.

It's the hard copy for me or nothing.
