The AK system has variants which are more modern than 90% of the weapons on that list though. Doesn't have to be an AK-47 (though that would look coolest, of course :P) .

So that one is not unlocked eventually if you don't pre-order?

It was information from the PS3 Beta, they could of taken out weapons or added some in by now.

So, who's pre-ordered? For me, it definitely looks possible but I might seriously need to upgrade.

I haven't preordered yet. It's in my Steam basket, just haven't gotten around to sorting it out. It is a definite purchase however.

Looking forward to the beta.

The SecuROM DRM solution used in DICE's shooter Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has been explained by lead programmer Mikael Kalms over on the Battlefield Blog.

"The version which we use is a wrapper around the main game executable," says Kalms, "ONLY running when the game is running" and uninstalled when the game is.
BC2 will feature two authentication options--one online and one offline. Players can avoid online activation altogether with the disc check method, which requires the DVD be in their drive when they play but can be done entirely offline.

As disc checks are a nuisance, players can alternatively opt to let SecuROM go online. After authenticating once, the installation will be authenticated and can run offline for a grand next ten thousand days before needing to activate again--over twenty-seven years.

The online method has a ten-installation limit. Copies will automatically de-authenticate upon uninstalling or players can de-authorise PCs manually, though the process requires the PC in question be online. Should players exhaust their ten installations, Kelms says to "contact EA's technical support to get an extra authentication added to your 'pool.'

A SecuROM wrapper will also be used in the upcoming semi-public PC beta "to make it difficult to hack the Closed Beta client to run the final game," Kalms says.

Sauce?

OK, so let me get this straight.

if you have a hard copy, you can let the game check your DVD for authentication instead of going online to do so, and if you do that, it never activates any form of DRM, and you can install it ten million billion times if you want to. Did I understand that correctly?

pretty much yes

why did they even add the second option in that case? seems pretty redundant to me given that almost everyone has internet nowadays...

Well if someone doesn't have internet and they want to play the single player they can, it would cause too much trouble not to include it.

thing is, i can't imagine anyone who has no internet to buy the game in the first place...

I have lightning-fast internet, but if using an offline method prevents me from having this stupid DRM thing run everytime you start the game, I'll take that over that immediately. I'd actually consider it quite ridiculous if you couldn't do something to circumvent DRM.

*watchitpal*

But seriously, downloads aren't an option for me in any way. I get demo versions on DVD and if I enjoy the game enough, I'll purchase a full version from Virgin or somewhere.
