Since the SDK for Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3 have not been released I am not optimistic about the future of Command & Conquer modding.
I think that you have hit the nail on the head so accurately I think you could be using laser targetting.
Given the proximity to the release of RA3, the expansion & EA's apparent whorish attitude to now make and release big titles so often I can't see them bothering with any SDK's from this point on. Think of it like this..........
How does modding add real profitable/bankable value to their bottom line results?
I suspect Generals II maybe end up being the biggest let down of a generation.

A SDK for RA3 is being released soon, as for KW? Don't think it'll get one but it'll get another patch.

Generals II would be released? Well if that is so, I hope newer factions, Lots of missions, improved Eye and Ear candy, a new SAGE Engine, more factions and other stuff. Oh and also if you are defeated then there would be an introduction. For example: You failed to capture those 4 Baikonur missiles and then an introduction shows that it is launched, hits major cities in America, lots of chaos and you get the rest. But one more thing I hope that this is not rushed like last time. And finally I can't wait for it.

Generals 2? Rly...
Well, a friendlier WB, easy modability, not-so-smart AI (I hate the running around Vindicators
), 12 missions or more (I hope for 18
) for each factions, modernized GLA, slightly more advanced China, 2x units compared to RA3 (3x is even nicer
), more emphasis on stolen/secret tech, more tech structures, DO NOT RUSH.
But @ the top of my list is that they make a PS3 version, or I get a better comp before it releases

That's what I've been saying all along. The majority of the players will always move on to the next title rather than looking for mods of the older game
because the time in between releases is way too short for modding projects to take off and without an SDK, there won't be any mods in the first place.
``And about Kane, I simply am bored by constantly hearing " Kane Lives! ", " Kane is back ", the People get the Idea.´´
Spot on. The plots in the Tiberium universe usually revolve around Nod being 'defeated' for years, then suddenly Kane turns out to be not quite as dead as GDI thought, then Nod launches a full-scale invasion that totally catches the most powerful military alliance on the planet off guard and after a series of battles and maybe one single sinister realisation involving betrayal, deception or the appearance of a previously unknown entity from the outside, peace is restored and Kane is once again presumed dead even though there's bugger all proof and GDI decides to leave Nod alone because 'they ain't nothing without Kane' and the oh-so-unexpected power vacuum caused by Kane's 'death' throws the entire organisation into a chaotic mess until Kane returns to re-unite the Brotherhood once more and the whole thing starts over again. Needless to say that this does get a little ridiculous after three games plus expansions.

Put it this way, my personal experience with Generals, and the more recent C&C3.
I got bored playing C&C3 in less than three months. The first thing is the gameplay, it's just spam. The second thing, no mods. I want to find a decent mod for it, I don't get any. It's about one and a half years after the Mod SDK is released, yet I can count the number of released and at least decent mods with my fingers. The modding community for C&C3 is quite small, and there's no sign of it expanding either. It just has too high of a learning curve for someone without modding experience at all. Modding never really took off, Generals had Sleipnir's Stuff, filled with free assets, that got novice modders started.
I got Generals 5 years ago (very rough guess, I forgot just how long I played it), and I still play it today. The wide selection of generals left me hooked to the game for a while, when I played offline. Then I found the wide number of mods, one of them Shockwave, which I still play today. There's many choices for released mods, RotR, Shw, Project Raptor, Contra, Remix, MEC, CWC, V:GO, depending on your taste, just one of them is enough. And I haven't mention how many other less ambitious half-conversions are there lying in various corners of the internet. Once I started playing online, the gameplay then gave new life to it. It's a nice mix of micro and macro. You don't have to micro your tanks out of the range of the enemy while they reload for two seconds, then send them back in, but there's enough micro so that Rockvess will own tanks. I am stuck with Generals partially because I mod it. Though I attempted modding C&C3 too, it was just too annoying to get stuff in the game.
tl,dr:Generals > C&C3
Therefore, I would like to see another Generals that has a good gameplay, though there isn't really hope for the open-source modding that was in Generals to return anymore. I wouldn't be too interested with another Tiberium game. As E.V.E. said, Kane always manages to come back from the dead, only to be defeated by GDI. Few years later, he comes back again, thus the cycle continues.

We just need some experience ppl who can crack the game files and make the tools so we can mod it ourselfs, just as they did with TS/RA2/Generals...

Yea, EA's releases between games is way too fast. I'd prefer them to release the sequels like Blizzard, much slower. Games that have a lot of potential to evolve like SC and WC3 have not had sequels in a long time because the gameplay keeps changing and this gives custom maps a lot of time to develop, such as DotA, which was created and is now an extremely popular modmap (over 100k people are playing it at ANY time of day, one of the most popular 'mod' ever created).
RA3 will have a SDK + patch, I don't think EA will give up on RA3 very fast because
1. It has promising gameplay and is fairly popular, I'm sure it will become part of the WCG sooner or later and replace KW, maybe become a popular E-Sport choice eventually
2. It doesn't have nearly as many problems as C&C3 had in terms of imbalances

My only wish is that companies stops putting RTS games on consoles unless they're designed ONLY for consoles. RTS games on consoles+PCs nowadays have to be "dumb downed" in many aspects so that it'll actually work on consoles. It's impossible to have a micro or marco intensive game without a keyboard and mouse, simple as that.

Selling something with No Multiplayer with a Title from a Franchise wich always had Multiplayer is just a downgrade. And alot of People need Mulitplayer to enjoy a game, because nothing is more fun than to play with someone who you know and the AI sooner or later will keep doing the same predictable stuff.
Yep. It's possible to play singleplayer only and have fun, it's usually when you face an actual opponent who can think and react properly (and not cheat, AI uses more cheats than hackers usually :S) can you see how much different a game is with actual people.

Without multiplayer i would not by it for sure.
This is on part of the game i do like most.
Those night's 4 guys sitting around a poker table playing ZH or ZH/mod ...
Good memories come back.
This reminds me to call my friends to have a little LAN party.
Best regards

You guys really shouldn't be bitching about the C&C3 SDK or its modding community seeing that you pretty much did the best you could to keep it in this state. The RA3 situation is a logical result of the communities neglect and angst towards C&C3 modding.

Just give us a new franchise EA. Generals and ZH was terrible without mods.

New Franchise ? hell yea that would be nice.
Drop generals ? no.
ZH was like cancer to the original game and i feel the same for every C&C exp pack since ZH realy they only casted a shadow upon the original game splitting the community and usualy felt quite rushed when it came to the art department and alot of other areas aswell.
Generals it's self none ZH that is was much better and i enjoy this game alot more than any of the newer C&C Titles and when i think about it i feel all nostalgic one of those times i thought i'd just that nostalgic feeling to do something creative which is why i ended up making generals classic.

They could always bring back Dune, even though it's not C&C, it did share C&C elements.
Also Generals 2 may NOT happen according to this. Look around at 7.
We'll find out this Summer I suppose.

EA don't hold the license for Dune, and I don't think the demand is there to merit another Dune title.
A new C&C universe that utilises the peon system would be great, but even then I will wait for reviews before buying a new C&C game again. My enthusiasm for the franchise has waned considerably after the abysmal Uprising.

Both planned, both cancelled, only closest to a C&C FPS you'll get is Renegade (Maybe EA will revive Tiberium but I don't know)

They do, at least from what I was told.

Reviews are flawed, you have to try it to believe it. Honestly Uprising ain't that all bad it was meh at the first to begin with but theres some good and bad points about it, Not the greatest game I agree.
But like I say we'll find out this summer.

Licenses are rented for x amount of years, and just recently EA relinquished the rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise. That said, I cannot imagine they have retained the license to Dune after all of these years. It would cost them money for nothing.

I'm looking foward to the Gen II annoucement, but I have a feeling that I'll be dissappointed. I personally found both CnC3 and RA3 unsatisfactory (though they were better than ZH by a long shot).
Oh Dune, I really wish someone could make a good game out of it, but it seems to be nigh impossible. The only memorable thing that every came out of a Dune game was the music (Particularly Harkonnen) from Emporer: Battle for Dune.

I'd love to see another C&C... BUT not another sequel.
It's about time they revealed other, opposite aspects of the battles we've already seen (aka TD and TS storylines, with a written agreement not to copy a single line of story script of the originals, insured by a titanium ball-cutting device).
I believe that everything what's after Tiberian Sun is complete bollocks... Kane should've died and GDI should've been squished in its entiriety by Scrin - a more plausible result, given the bullcacas we've been couping with in C&C3.

Maybe they won't rush the game this time. I bet they learned a bit from Shockwave.
