I just hope the game can live up to the trailers. Does anyone else really want a Deus Ex movie now?

They can't be that stupid, surely?
Note @ trailer. If we actually get to play with all the enhancements in those arms, and the combat/action/storyline can all keep pace with the trailer, it's quite possible this will be one of the best games of the year.

I'd wish instead of releasing dates and delaying games developers would just keep quiet until they had a exact date.
Oh well, gives me more time to finish Deus 1

While I can't wait to buy this, the more time they spend polishing it the better. One of the problems with many games these days is short development cycles which are imposed by the publisher. Leading to unfinished, buggy games which often don't live up to their potential.

The interface is... odd, floating boxes when you pick them up? completely empty FPS view? wtf...
And its a shame that the takedowns are not more interactive.

I'll be honest, I quite like the interface, and the floating boxes kinda reminds me of HL2. That said, I think the switching back-and-forth between the 1st and 3rd person view is going to get old, very quickly, especially using the cover system. I also agree that the takedowns should be more interactive - if not there had better at least be a shedload of variety to them. I'd also say that the augmentation takedown looked quite unrealistic - the stab in the back was nice (no signs of damage to the enemy tho aside from a baby blood spatter), but the follow-through upwards swipe was just shit. No damage to the enemy model (even though it's a prerecorded animation), and there is no way your character is going to knock an enemy arse-over-tit with any form of weapon, not least a blade that cuts straight through them. I don't rate it. At all.

^Yeah reminded me of HL2/source games in general, I wouldave prefered a press-x-to-make-your-character-push-it-in-3rd-person animation rather than floating.
Seeing how it is atm, im really glad they pushed it back, because it needs a shitload of polish.

Maybe they'll smooth over the 1st to 3rd person transitions too. But I like the concept of the GUI tbh.

Well the whole floaty box is how it's done in Deus Ex 1 (which you all need to play if you haven't already!).
I hate the 1st to 3rd. I won't enjoy the game as much if they don't give me an option to change it to just 1st :(

Played it to death Doc

And the 3rd person is necessary for a game with a cover-based system. There's no way you can play a game behind cover in 1st person. Just seems like it's trying to be two different kinds of game all at once. At the moment, I'm not sold on whether they've achieved it.

I think cover based systems in FPS games are logically backwards, the whole point of being in cover is so you don't get seen and the disadvantage being that you can't see them.
You shouldn't be magically able to see over cover even though your character is looking sideways at the ground. It works fine in third person shooters but in FPS games I think it ruins the immersion.
A good example of cover based systems done well in an FPS is the up coming Red Orchestra.

I prefer the convenience that a 3rd person view offers for cover. Gears of War 2 has a good cover system imo.

I have to say I'm glad he took out a weapon at 2:00 because this empty FPS view, I like it not. The graphics look good though, I'm sure it will be amazing-looking on the PC
. From what I'm seeing this will be much in the spirit of the Hitman games, which is good
.
