TD's do tend to have a horrible RoT, however, if your opponents are like some I've seen, you'll be detected and will have your target's teammates on you in seconds. There's usually a couple of actual tanks hanging back to protect the SPG's is the TD's are out hiding in the brushes, watching the paths into the base.

Well I must be lucky, cause most of the time the opposing team just rushes in different ways... Anarchy FTW :o

I'm starting to hate the light/medium tanks. I play TD and I always loose to them.

Not to mention one shotting jagdpanthers killing me from bushes...

Well I ran into Nuker apparently (I am still going to keep my nick to myself). Seems like he likes to make a couple of remarks at the start of the battle :)

Only to offer suggestions for battle, or in some cases.....to piddle my pants because of what the other team has at their disposal. :)

@ Mental: :) Show off.

@ thread: Does anyone here, besides Mental, TehKiller, and myself still play the WoT Beta? I've added everyone who has given their nick here, but I never see anyone on. Sure I realize that the times I'm logged on might be late at night or very early morning for some, but on the weekends, I have to wonder.

Don't have the time nor the interest anymore. As I suspected, it's a lot of grinding, which I ain't a fan of. Combined with the fact that you almost have to buy every tank between your tank and the tank you want, makes me dislike it. Ah well, at least I've tried an MMO...

We are planning some big updates for the World of Tanks closed beta, which will include launching new game servers in North America and delivering a fresh patch containing new game features. To make sure everything works well, we will halt the game servers from 9 a.m. GMT August 26 till September 1.

On September 1, we will be on air again with all the players connected to the American servers. Several days after that, the new 0.5 patch will be rolled out with several new features, which are:

* Squad fights. A squad will include 2 to 3 people and will allow players to invite their friends and join a random battle as a single fighting unit, which will help them coordinate their actions and maneuvers.
* Additional modules. Install rammers and increase your firing rate, take suspension stiffeners and improve your tank’s tonnage, decrease visibility by installing a camouflage net, choose between dozens of upgrades that differ depending on a tank model you choose.
* Crew kits. Equip you tank crew with fire extinguishers, repair kits, first-aid sets and other elements, with each of them providing extra help in battles.

With the new patch rolled out, all beta testers will get 5000 gold each to test the new game features. The patch will be followed by a “light” wipe when the players will go back to tier 1 tanks, but all the experience they have earned will be converted into free experience which they will be able to use at their leisure. All credits will remain as well, and losing all the tanks, modules, and shells will be compensated by corresponding amount of credits spent on buying them. If a player had a premium tank or shells, compensation will be arranged in respectful amount of gold.

Stay tuned, we’ll be informing you on all major events on World of Tanks.

September 1st will be a good day to be a beta-tester. :)

I have a question about the gameplay. In the trailer the game shows quite some close quarters combat with tanks running around each other trying to find the weaker armour to shoot at. Is this game purely like this with light tanks running around and ambushing others, or is there also a range factor and can you be good if you are a trained ranged fighter? (for example being good at estimating gun angles to kill your less-skilled opponent from range?).

I ask this to see whether this game could get me off Navyfield which is a purely ranged naval fighter much in the same way as this game, where you have your own unit and grind to get better ships - tanks. I like the ranged aspect which makes it require a lot of estimating skill and it would be cool if this game offered the same experience however with the added option of close quarters combat (something obviously lacking in a naval game)

Yes. Only recruit battles look retarded with CQB since they cant do much with their shitty light tanks. However in standard battle's if you are playing with a light vehicle then you will go into CQB most of the time but you wont need to fire a shot (at last not at mediums and heavies)...light vehicles are scouts and they are supposed to just keep moving, dodging shells and spot other tanks for the arty.

Those players smart enough to use their TD or SPG the way it was intended do so from a long range, though there are some vision issues with the game that can and do affect this from time to time. I've seen a lot of heavy tanks engage in long range combat while they protect the base and/or artillery. Mainly, these are the KV-1's that have been converted to KV-2's, but I have seen much larger tanks such as the IS-3/4 assume this role, and even Panther II's filling this niche in a pinch.

The light tank battles do get a bit personal, but then again, tanks like the T-26 and the Pz II aren't that great at ranges above 200 metres.

Personally I'm looking forward to the squad combat and the addition of the US tanks most.

This sounds exactly like Navyfield, the light low level vehicles being mere pot shots that actually should act as a scout being hard to hit but because lots of new players are clueless, hardly fit these roles and approach a superior adversary guns blazing and one shot dying xD.

Digging around I actually found out my old Navyfield fleet partly switched over to WoT because it is newer but pretty much offers exactly the same game style only with tanks, and in a first/second person rather than a third person perspective. I will try it now.

The two lowest tiers battle separately from the higher tiers (and IIRC, there are tiered battles in the wings for later). Those light tank battles are far different than the ones of the higher tiered war machines, being that tiers I and II involve tanks under 12 tonnes with cannons generally no larger than 45mm (although SPG's mount up to 105mm and TD's up to 76mm). Tiers from III and above typically involve longer ranges and cannons much, much larger (as well as having tanks above 70 tonnes on the battlefield). In the higher tiered battles, light tanks do fulfill the role of scouting, or at least, those smart enough to use their tank for that purpose. The German Leopard is one of the most annoying, and therefore effective light tank, as it has sloped armour, a 593hp motor, and a 50mm gun with which to pester and poke at the enemy.

Well, since this looks interesting enough and the downtime appears to have ended today, I registered myself as "Starfyter", if anyone is interested.

Downloading the game now, I'll see how it goes.

I hope you don't mind playing catch up with everyone mate, seeing as those who were beta testers before the downtime will be getting all of their xp they had saved up back. Not to mention the 5000 gold and credit compensation for all the tanks and equipment they had purchased previously.

Despite all of that, I look forward to seeing you in a tank. 8|

150-200 ms ping and you're already complaining? Try playing at 400 to 600 ms ping while running it at around 5 to 15 FPS while using a Panzer III vs the Heavies.

A friend of mine has to play the game in aerial view all the time to avoid lagging, needless to say he unlocked all the arty only :o

I average 30fps with around 70mps. I used to have between 150 and 200mps, but since they added the American servers, my ping's down. 8|
