Yeah it certainly left me wanting for more, Was a lot of fun. Everything seems to fit rather well in the 40k universe, the scenery is a tad bland however, it could use some more details.

I am downloading the PS3 demo now. Would also try the PC demo to see the graphical difference.

Heh, yeah, I've heard the demo was awesome. And of course our good but unstable internet decided to go fuckall this week which leaves only our shitty but stable internet.

Downloaded all day, still only half way.

Having had a couple of stabs at the demo missions now I am not sure where I stand.... which is a rather surprising thought for me.

To start with, I like it. I do like it. But it's just a "mashy R2 gore fest" with a decent Jump Pack mechanic thrown in. I like the idea of the execution mechanic to gain life, but that just leaves me spamming "F" & "E" all the time and making me think that Captain Titus is in the sodding Matrix. It just makes me want to run up the walls in power armour D8

The weapons feel good to use, the Stalker Pattern Bolter in particular is hugely satisfying to use to explode ork heads from quite some distance. I think that I would've preferred an option to switch my stance manually from CC to Ranged though, so as to activate the combo moves rather than "R2", "R2R2", "R2R2R2", "R2R2R2R2F".

Overall, without having been able to try the MP, this isn't going to have huge replayability and I feel that I am perhaps I am missing the grim darkness that a 40K game of this magnitude and stature should have. It's visceral, fast paced and fun, but I doubt it's going catch it's fan base the way it could have done with a touch more thought.

It is a big of a mash fest and combos... aren't really combos (more like press R2 more). There is a very close feeling of playing 真・三國無双/Dynasty Warriors if any is familiar with it. Although the effect of destruction is extremely satisfying, even more so if you are destorying them with the power axe, the effect, both visually and audibly is just awesome. You really feel the power of the weapon.

I play through it in hard mode, and found it far more interesting than rushing in and mashing R2. Although it is not extremely tactical but at least jumping in a massive hoard of greenskins will kill you pretty fast. On the topic of it being not grim and dark, I don't think one can judge it from the demo. Most likely they have released one of the most action intensive missions and there isn't much of a storyline shown here, maybe in the full game it will be far darker and grimmer than the glorious slaughter fest of xenos.

Most games these days have low replayability because they are essentially a scripted linear path. The only thing that gives most games replay value these days is multiplayer. From what I have seen it seems to capture the warhammer feel brilliantly, though I think I will be playing on hard as it looks a tad easy.

Do you mind elaborating how and why you think that? From my pov it displays a ten foot, superhuman, Ultra Smurf in power armour covered in gore brilliantly. Not the universe of 40k (from the two missions that we've seen).

We might as well admit it. This is what 40k is always portrayed as. 90% of the books portray it this way.

Of course, there's alot more to it than that.

I played the first mission in the PS3 demo and I am surprised at the quality of the graphics. The only multi platform game that looked better than this (it does not feel pixelated) in my PS3 was bulletstorm. The gameplay is damn fun as many of you said.

My only gripe is that voice acting is too damn boring. I was expecting some tough voices, along the lines of the original DOW1 RTS. Apart from that this game looks great. Should try the PC demo to see the diff.

oh and I adore the fury mode and executions :D.

To all those annoyed by the VA. I've heard that it's just placeholders. Supposedly they'll have better VA for the actual game.

btw how did you play the first demo mission? I mostly cut my way through with me Chainsword, hardly used the bolter except to take out some distant greenskins using the scopes.

I did see your post, but everyone else was pretty much saying it was good, "are Wiz and I the only ones" doesn't have the same ring to it.

I'm pretty much in agreement with everything you said, though.

Maybe you should stop playing it as a third person meele and start playing it as a third person shooter? I hardly ever went into meele on my first run through, only pulled out the chainsword when I was forced into doing so. As spectacular and gory as the meele may be, it's as you said just a "Mash RMB" (and occasionaly F for the stun). Once I started playing on Hard, I found it devastating to venture into meele, since the orks more or less destroys you if there are 4 or more at the same time. I do love the Power Axe though :D

To be honest, quite a bit of the 'M2 and win' thing is mostly due to the game difficulty, IMO. They really need to bump up the difficulty to have any fun playing this game. Even in hard mode, I play through all of it with a bolt pistol and chainsword, there simply isn't a need to use anything else. Not that I am saying they need to make the weapons less effective (maybe the AOE damage from melee) but give more of a challenge that the player need to think slightly differently than charge and M2.

Playing just with melee is a hell of a lot easier than shooting your way through, particularly in the last part of the first mission where its wave after wave. You might as well just go in a R2 R2 R2 F combo which ruins everything around you, do that a few times, get the fury/rage/yellow thing out and repeat.
That said its still a lot of fun, I hope you can get different melee combos as you progress.

Thats what space marines are though, superhuman killing machines. I think the gameplay looks a tad repetitive and a bit mindless, but it also looks very fun. If the game is backed up with a deep interesting story and gameplay variations more the better, but I'll probably still buy it because it just looks like damn good fun.

While I think they should've added more combos (although nothing ridiculously over the top) for melee. And ranged should be more viable. The game is still incredibly fun. I hope it will have a good story to back it up.

Also, they should add more variations to the ork dialog, currently it's just: SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS! SPESS MAHREENS!

YES! :/

That and some other orky lines, Currently it gets repetive after 5 minutes of the same 4 lines being repeated over and over (3 of them including the word "Space Marines").

"Pro"....really? REALLY?!? Posted Image Last I checked, there was no such designation in the WH40k universe, let alone, amongst da Orkz.

Guess they missed out on the fundamental element that the bigger an Ork gets, the darker in colour he gets as well. So, not only are Orkz being seen as "free health", they're also being portrayed poorly and under false nomenclature..... Posted Image
