It's a free game, so we might as well try it, but I doubt I'll like it. It just doesn't look right somehow. The days of when units could be cool, funky and interesting, like in ZH, are all but over. The only RTS game I have serious hopes for atm is Planetary Annihilation.
I do hope they put Thrax in though .

Hear hear, no reason to not try it.
That said, Planetary Annihilaiton has started posting some of the stuff they've created, and by god, they do look good, I love the design and the lines and mmm, everything:

I agree....PA looks the best bet so far.
C&C would inevitably have always on DRM and it would be a disaster as with SimCity.

Always online DRM can suck my sweet balls. If it has that in, I'm not even going to try it. See also PA naval units:
Alias 16 Mar 2013
It's not just the DRM (which is sort of permanently required for a FTP game), but if SimCity is anything to go by, I don't think EA will have anywhere near the server architecture they would need to support a free-to-play title and the demand that comes with it.
I really like how much of a throwback to TA style those unit designs are, so glad I preordered PA.
Definitely have some games when beta rolls in.

It would have the always on line thing cos its supposed to be a live service. So its certainly going to be a failure at launch. Also the requirement heavy nature of the Frostbite might increase the lag even more.
As for PA, I am really really looking forward to this.

Frostbite is only gonna make your game lag if your rig can't handle it, the graphics engine won't affect the servers, since every graphical element will be handled by the client only.

Exactly. AFAIK many RTS gamers does not have super high end rigs that would run Frostbite well. Even though the game would release next year along with next-gen consoles, I wonder how many ppl would be put off by the system requirements. If they go on and make it dx11 only, then it would be even worse.
From my BF3 experience, Frostbite is not very good when running on lower spec machines.

Indeed, while I run Dead Space 3 at highest settings without any kind of problem on most of the time, machine almost exploded on medium setting BF3... thus I decided to leave that game alone until I have some kind of super computer oneday...
I'll first check out the demo or something for this game, then I can even decide to upgrade my PC or get a console for that game only, just like I did with MGS4 and sold it afterwards

That video felt weird. It's like they were just saying community, community, community.

Our veterans, the people who have been with C&C since '95, when they install the game and start playing, all I really want from them is to go "Holy crap! This is Command & Conquer"
Sums up the state of C&C when people should be surprised that a Command & Conquer game is a Command & Conquer game.

Somehow this wasn't noticed here. Thrax apparently survived... but he does sound very different.
Chyros 12 Jun 2013
Can't have Gens without Thrax, but he doesn't sound anywhere near as much fun as he used to. Units look much better though.

Oh, this despite the fact that the GLA was more than able to hold its own throughout the events of Gens and ZH
Seriously, what is with some people and sensitivity? Gens got banned in China for the heavy-handedness of its forces, but they didn't change anything because of that, save perhaps for the "China saves Europe/Germany (while trashing the place)" bit at the end of ZH. If they must, what's wrong with a disclaimer stating that "all events and people featured in this game are fictional"?

No longer will Command and Conquer's militant "Global Liberation Army" feature generals of obvious Middle Eastern descent, once the game goes free-to-play. Polygon reports that Victory Games made the decision because some folks didn't like the implication that Middle Easterners were a bunch of militant terrorists.

So thats why they turned one of the best characters in video games ( Thrax - a middle eastern Toxin Specialist Commander ) into a gangster who talks like a meth specialist
Chyros 13 Jun 2013
Seriously, i can't believe they want us to believe a game without "HEH, I SEEEE YOUUUU" is a Generals game. The old Generals had so much personality, it's a shame they want to give that up just to cave in to the demands of a bunch of pussies who get offended at everything.
CJ 13 Jun 2013
Well in all fairness, C&C Generals sales numbers got hit pretty hard because of all the controversy, and we all know that EA values the number of customers above all else.
BTW, did you guys see how many general icons they showed? I wonder how much cash it'll cost to unlock them all (since it was already confirmed that you'd have to pay for additional factions)
