It'll be a necessity in coming years. Chinese are the largest non-English immigrant group to Australia, and the number (and the percentage of population they take up) only increases.
A quarter of the people at my current workplace are born in China.

Not to mention it is pretty useful to know languages other than English. I have conversational German, but that's about it.
Chinese is easy, just say "herro" and "prease" a lot |8 .

That stereotype would be fine if it wasn't actually worse the other way around. The phonetics of Chinese are a lot harder for Europeans than English phonetics are for Chinese, primarily because of how ridiculously tonal Chinese is.

Chinese has an L sound as well by the way, it's not Japanese. :P

Only worthwhile if you actually plan to live there. They all speak English so it doesn't matter. :P

Only reason Dutch is a semi-valid prospect for me is I know decent amounts of German along with my English. 8|

The Chinese have an L sound, but they mix them up because of some transliteration error or something. The Chinese people over here all mispronounce the L and R sounds :xD: .

You'd never succeed, Dutch pronunciation is completely impossible for foreigners, especially native English speakers :xD: . We've had people staying for years at our group and from all countries, but not a single one has ever spoken a sentence that sounded even remotely like Dutch :xD: .

That's mainly because the L is usually at the start of words, not inside. Still - they're a lot better at it than Japanese and Koreans.

If white people can learn a tonal language, I'm pretty sure I'll have no issues with Dutch. :P

It might be reasonably difficult compared to other European languages, but it pales compared to some others (*cough*Xhosa*cough*). 8|

Heheheheh, that's true I guess :xD: .

Tbh I think a big part may be the trouble native English speakers seem to have speaking foreign languages. I know French people who can pronounce more different sounds than most native English speakers :xD: .

I don't think there's anything in the world with a greater price disparity than wine.

From $2 a litre to over $100000 a litre.
