World-warfare?

*sigh* I've *never* seen this implemented in combination with a decent storyline.

Well, it may not be original but RoN:T&P had some historical campaigns, including Alexander the Great, Napoleon and the Cold War. (z0mg n00ks :))

Original or not, my concern is that such a game design doesnt lend itself to a well-structured storyline. Sure, you can draw upon a rich historical background to flavour any game, but the gameplay itself doesn't develop such a storyline well.

The big problem is that with a linear campaign A:mission 1-10, campaign B: mission 1-10 etc.. you can revolve each "mission" around a specific point in time within the story.

With 'worldwide' combat, driven by in essence, the whim of the player, you *can't* timeline any aspect of the storyline without making it vauge and meaningless.

It could be more of a limited thing, in that you're limited in what you can do and are given set objectives to achieve.

They called World Domination a "Mini Game." so don't expect something groundbreaking and epic because it's meant to be a bone to throw at us.

Edit: Bad typo which made the post lose it's meaning.

actually, the global mode and the story campaing can be two singel player campaings? , so you play global mode without story but are free to move and the like

Good news for me , I always liked expansions of C&C and I have strong hopes about this one aswell.

Ok, maybe I misinterpreted that a "global campaign" mode would be how the actual story-based campaigns would roll out.

If they were two separate things, then I'd be all for it :)

Of course a CnC 3 expansion was coming. Just to get more money out of us. The pictures I've seen are good, but if EA wants to win the crowd over this time, they had better make patches roll out as soon as the problems are found. Else I see this going the way of the original CnC 3, perhaps slower only because of the addition of subfactions.

Until Patch 1.07 and the SDK comes out, I still refuse to play it. When the expansion comes out, I'll give it a shot.

Here's some news from IGN.

We have some info on some new units for GDI and NOD and some other stuff.

So Nod will be getting Infantry and Thrax. What a peculiar combination.

The Zone Raider sounds cool and it will be female.

Seems like Commander AbsĀ“ pessimism was justified...

The campaign structure is changing pretty dramatically from previous C&C games as the team is building on experience from the Battle for Middle-earth titles. The new campaign will add a high-level turn-based strategy game where players make global decisions and then jump into the more familiar tactical battles when armies come into conflict on the global map.

I wonder if that will affect multiplayer somehow. Imagine Online Campaigns? =O

Is it just me, or does the enviroment look a bit more bleak and desolate in the screenshots?

I think there maybe Arctic environments, cause they say that you'll be fighting all over the world.

Arctic environments would definitely make me like it a bit more, the whole desert/temperate/urban/red zone thing doesn't appeal to me so much anymore.

Yeah, especially since those Red Zones fail to recreate the ambience they were supposed to convey. Post apocalyptic wasteland my arse, they looked everything but threatening, barely scarier than some parts of my city. Where's all the mutated flora/fauna? The ion storms, category something hurricanes tossing around Tiberium shards as described in the intel? What they gave us is nothing but black terrain textures and those funky Tiberium glaciers which look more beatiful than dangerous and have surprisingly little (=zero) impact on gameplay. I really hope that the expansion will spice up the ambience to convey the deteriorating state of Earth more visibly. Snowy landscape might be a good thing here but I'm also hoping for something tropical. As I said in the past, imagine a Tiberium infested jungle.

I hear that MDW, Tiberian Fauna FTW! I want Ion Storms to make a definite return. Each time I heard the 'Ion Storm Approaching' sound off in Tiberian Sun, the hairs on the back of my neck rose to new heights. Just the thought of my Orca Fighter/Bomber attack run being pummeled into oblivion in one fell swoop, makes me cry to this day.

Well a common criticism of C&C3 was that it wasn't as bleak as TS was.

Razven's Photo Razven 23 Aug 2007

Maybe they're responding to the requests for a bleaker enviroment.

But at least there's more trees (the dead kind). I think the first time they used them was at the Tournament Rift map IIRC.
