Up in the Air - 9/10
This movie impressed me, falling somewhere in the epicenter of comedy, drama, and tragedy. The movie follows a man (George Clooney) who's job it is to fire people. He travels the United States, from company to company, delivering that very surprising and hurtful message so the companies don't have to go through it themselves. When his own company decides to ground all its employees in favor of firing people via web conferencing, however, his world is shaken.
Up in the Air does a great job of generating laughs while maintaining the sincerity of what George Clooney's character does for a living. There are several philosophical moments and arguments between the characters that will have you leaving the theater thinking as well, and a romantic relationship that everyone wants to work out by the end. Both of these elements contribute to the plot nicely. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a very down to Earth movie that plays on the realism of the more depressing parts of life, while bringing out smiles along the way.
AJ is responsible for this signature masterpiece... if you see him, tell him I say thanks.

Dolemite is THE so bad it's good 70's blaxploitation film, and it's quite likely that this was intentional. When the second line in a movie includes the words "Rat-soup eating motherfucker". You know you're in for brilliance. The convoluted plot follows the pimp Dolemite, wrongfully thrown in jail by evil FBI agents. When his
Dolemite is a poorly made film, but hilariously so. The kung-fu in the films universe seems to mean "Dolemite flails his arms and legs around until the extras remember they're supposed to fall". Half the actors can't seem to remember their lines, leading to exchanges like this:
"Who are you?"
"We're the FBI"
"...Who ARE you!?!"
"...We're the FBI!"
The Boom-micks are visible in half the scenes, cuts are sudden and random. Everyone swears like sailors. The padding is insane, like a 5 minute long scene of Dolemite switches from inmate clothes to pimp gear infront of the entire prison courtyard. Characters vanish without a trace (Whatever happened to the white prostitute in Dolemites car?!) and last, but not least, it features KARATE HOES!
Apart from all the so-bad-it's-goodness, the movie did have a well-made intro credit sequence.

This movie is mostly know for how disturbing it is, and that is true, but beneath the disturbing stuff, it seems like more than just Exploitation, it seems like a genuinely good film, The characters are interesting, with Milos, the main character, being a tragic and sympathetic lead, and the antagonist Vukmir being one of the most evil and disturbed villains ever put to screen, The soundtrack is perfect, with the creepy Pazi sta radis serving as one of the best credit pieces I've heard. It fits the horrifying and hellish nature of the film.
A Serbian film is fucked up, it's disgusting, it's daemonic, but I think perhaps, it was neccessary to make.

Firstly, Captain America: 6.5/10
Yeah it's fun, yeah its a run-and-gun action film with a few neo-Nazi influences, but honestly, it all feels a bit forced. And you can see the end coming from about 3 minutes into the film, if that. The acting is decent, and the pre-Captain America scenes were quite good fun. As I alluded to, though, it feels forced. Same as the Green Lantern, for that matter. In creating The Avengers film, Marvel are also doing all the spin-offs, and frankly, its starting to get old, like there's not much of a film to be made out of the stories pre-Avengers. This holds true here, and I couldn't help but feel this was (another) two hour trailer for The Avengers, when it eventually comes out. Should've just stuck with Iron Man and gone on from there, really, methinks.
Crazy, Stupid, Love: 9/10
This isn't a perfect dark comedy. it has its terribly clichéd moments (speech about love in front of an auditorium, whilst with a nice little twist, was still one of those 'not this shit again moments'). But for every one clichéd moment, there's a hundred reasonably fresh ideas. And they're merged together in a way that is actually quite refreshing, especially when you get walked very nicely down a path by the director, only to be hit by one hell of a twist. It's funny, its caring, its sensible, and in all genuine honesty, its good cinema. Steve Carrell is actually brilliant in a rather more serious role too , although you do continually expect him to crack the obvious joke, which just never comes, but leads you on to something infinitely more subtle instead. Well worth a watch if you have some spare time

There isn't much of the plot that makes sense, and even the cars aren't exactly my taste (I'm fine with tuners, but not like this). If you wanted a car movie, this movie is all cars with a lot of nitrous oxide and no sense.

I disagree, I actually liked Captain America. It poked fun at its own "patriot hero" nature. It wasn't deep or thoughtfull, but it was very fun and quite clever.

WARNING: Review might contain concentrated MAD. Also, harsh language.
Okay, okay... I haven't watched this, but I get where this movie is coming from.
It's a story of an ordinary man, with his own delusions about entitlement and self-worth, being forced to prostitute himself and destroy his values in order to survive. Sex is a metaphor, porn is an allegory. You start of with no money and with a troubled history that follows you everywhere. Then some 'nice man' offers you his sleazy hand to get you out of all the putrid crap that you've been going through, but instead... you get fucked. And then you maybe even manage to screw him a bit and get rid of the bastard... But you already lost everything important. If you didn't, you either didn't survive, or you will be choked out by similar vermin.
I like how a movie that finally tries to get it right, fails. It's a parody of all the victimization themes in Eastern European cinema, but it just has no LIMIT. So instead of art it becomes crap that people go all over like 'OOH, its so hooorible...". Bah. It was just a missed opportunity to make something really great, to break the cliche.
Long story short, the movie sucks just as much the whole country does.

Couldn't disagree more. It's an ugly film alright, but a masterfull one non-the-less

Heh, I would suggest to read the describtion on Wikipedia or something before watching it, takes some of the pure horror away. Leaving you able to focus on the other stuff. Which I found to be very good.

Thats what I call as a perfect movie, I simply didn't watch it as a movie, I thought I am watching a live event building up in front of my eyes.
Too bad I didn't saw that gem earlier.

Also, Contagion: 7.5/10
This is a decent film, don't get me wrong. It's a very analytical, if fictional, look at how an epidemic spreads, and the way in which it affects people. The acting is solid throughout, and the stories within the film are tied in nicely together. The only issue that some may have with it is that sometimes it is too analytical. In other words, whilst the stories within the film are all interesting, they don't tend to lead to much, and the film lacks a genuine sense of urgency or pace, or, at times, cohesiveness. The scientific background to it is also fabulous, and if you have any knowledge at all you'll soon realise the people who made this film know a fair bit more All in all, a genuinely good watch, but not necessarily what most people would define as a 'film'. It's a bit like The Day After Tomorrow without any massive personal struggles or overwhelming CGI scenes, but with a lot more smart.

Funny as hell but also very tragic. It exactly shows what war does to psyche of men.
Seems like I watch good old movies a bit late since there is no good movie coming out nowadays.

Book of Eli - 9/10
I only ever saw small bits of this movie, and decided to finally treat myself to the whole thing. Knowing it was going to be good, I had my hopes set up high already. About as good a post-apocalypse movie as it's going to get, it's remarkable how much this reminded me of Fallout 3. The movie, which emphasises how much so many of the things we take for granted are actually worth, is small art action, big-time spiritual actually. Apart from a pretty fantastic ending and a great plot, it also boasts some nice action scenes to take the load off the movie. Though Denzel Washington easily proves he can act really well in this movie, they obviously spared no expense when it came to the cast. In other words, this movie has pretty much everything; a great story, a great ending, great acting and even great action. Highly recommended for sure.

Reading your comment remind me to watch this movie, I just missed the chance to see it on theaters and and forgot about it afterwards, I watched it yesterday night and I must say it was awesome. It really gives you the feeling of that post apocalyptic world and it is not as boring as The Road. Not to mention Denzel doing perfect job with his casting as always.

Words genuinely can't describe just how good this film is. I picked it up on the offchance that Jennifer Morrison would continue to look hawt and that Tom Hardy would be pretty decent. I was not even slightly correct. Firstly, Jennifer Morrison was fine as and seriously has the best pair of legs I've ever seen, and the film would be worth the 140 minutes just for that reason alone.
However, when her legs aren't in shot, you can barely notice Morrison on screen. Not for her lack of camera time, but for the fact she is absolutely played off the stage by the two leads. Even though the supporting cast's acting is consistently good all-around, with some absolutely excellent performances, Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton ("who", I hear you cry) are absolutely show-stoppingly good. Both of them are reasonably unknown, although Hardy will be better known due to his stint in Inception, and his upcoming role in The Dark Knight Rises. Edgerton is little-know (apparently he's in the Star Wars films or something), but he is an absolute gem. Both of these actors display the raw emotions coursing through their bodies absolutely brilliantly. I genuinely cannot rave about them enough. It was fantastic.
So, to the plot. Basically, it's a story of redemption, of human kindness, of forgiveness, of the trials and tribulations of relationships (between husband and wife, father and son, etc). Oh, and it's interwoven into MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). That said, don't let the fighting detract from the core of the film. The fighting is excellent, the scenes are suitably grimy, then glitzy, and the brutality of it is all there. But that is not what the film is truly about. Instead, it is about the two fighters who look to deal with their past, and their present. The emotions that run through this film are fantastic, and you have no way to tell what is going to happen, no way to guess the end results. I did actually think that something along the lines of the way the end panned out was going to happen, but that was about 30minutes in and I changed my mind about 4 times after that...
Without giving the game away it's difficult to begin to describe this film. It's just an exceptionally made film, built around sports, rather than on it (think of Coach Carter, but with far more emotion, blended with Rocky, but with far more grit). It was a genuine pleasure to watch. If you like sports films it'll be good. If you like deeply touching, human drama then you'll also enjoy it. Sit somewhere in between, and you'll love it.
Oh, and Tom Hardy is due to play Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Genuinely could not be anticipating his role more now, because there is a certain scene in this film where his character (already pretty bulked up, like Bane) has a moment where he looks genuinely psychotic. And the raw acting talent in this man is staggering. If he can pull off Bane like I saw today, The Dark Knight Rises should be genuinely splendid too.

would've been a perfect movie with a bit more tweaking and putting a more fitting actor to the role other than Orlando Bloom, he is good actor yes but somewhat I think he does not suits to 'that' role. Someone like Viggo Mortensen( with beard thing ) would be better I think.

Also, went to see Mission Impossible 4 the other week, and it was genuinely good. Brad Bird knows what he's doing when directing films, that's for sure. It's a solid 8/10 or 9/10. Just don't take it too seriously, and enjoy what's on the screen

Urgh, that movie, that was the one that had the Ultra-Gary Stu protagonist that preached modern tolerance to an army of middle age crusaders. And somehow they still put him in charge. The only worth-while thing in that movie was Saladdin and Liam Neesom
