Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 confirmed

Rayburn's Photo Rayburn 15 May 2009

So we might run into generic SP-enemies with ACOGs, silencers and grenade launchers they actually USE? I like!

in the gameinformer they said that the enemies get customizable guns in the same spirit as COD4's multiplayer, and hinted at a customizeable SP character
So for the first time in CoD, I can choose what weapon I start with? :o

Sounds good indeed :) .

I am really liking the looks of how this game is turning out. I am definitely going to invest in this once it is released. :)

I just got my Game Informer in the mail, and they've got a big preview on Modern Warfare 2.

To give a quick overview: (edits: a few new weapons and clarifications)

-Big villain this time around is an associate of Zakhaev, named Makarov.
-You are part of a spec-ops group called Task Force 141 (which appears to be a multinational group, if the appearances of Americans in the teaser have any bearing on the matter)
-Soap is now ranked as Captain, a veteran, and an NPC (He speaks!)(Who knows, TF141 might be working with the SAS.)
-Locations so far include a base in Russia, a Russian village, Rio de Janeiro, and Afghanistan
-Most definitely new weapons, including the Steyr AUG, FAMAS, multiple members of the AK family (AK-47, AK-103), and other things such as riot shields
-IW doesn't want to stretch out the story, so the campaign will probably have a similar length to CoD4
-Enemies will carry customizable weapons (remember the interesting sight on the M4 in the SP of CoD4? Something similar to that can be seen. Also, laser sights.)
-Environments will be much more open than they used to be
-There will be, at times, civilians mixed in with militiamen- it is, quoting the article, "no easy task" to differentiate between combatants and civilians "in a chaotic battle"
-Intelligence and briefings will not be an end-all, be-all voice of god- intel will never be truly perfect
-Special forces mode will be scenarios set aside from the single player campaign- ideas IW liked but couldn't fit into the main story
-Special forces seems like it'll be MW2's co-op (rereading the article, it pretty much IS the co-op)
-Levels will be large--very large
-Some interesting new gadgets mentioned from SP that might turn out to be in MP- heartbeat sensors, movable turrets
-IW plans to make multiplayer success more of a widely seen thing than just a rank next to your name
-IW is "actively trying to eliminate" infinite respawning
-SP thus far appears to be very cinematic
-All the screens shown in the article (which will no doubt show up on the internet sometime soon) are ingame shots (self note: the angles are very awkward on some- but if it continues the first person tradition of CoD, it could be very interesting)
-Task Force character models use many nonstandard mods that IW discovered from real-life soldiers

Sorry for no pictures, but I don't have a scanner. Cool sounding, isn't it?

Interesting news, wish I could've read the article ^^ .

Rather stereotypical, but it will do I guess |8 .

Aww, Soap left his regiment? D:

That's good news. He'll probably be much more interesting that way - in CoD 4 after all, he was only a name.

 Foxhound, on 18 May 2009, 21:45, said:

Just today I was thinking how riot shields could be an interesting addition. *is interested what they make of it ^^ *

I'm curious as to how they'll mod these to have any real benefit. Should be a cool addition if they get it working.

Sounds like IW finally said goodbye to the shotgun - perhaps the shotgun will be a perk replacement for the pistols, or maybe they'll even have learned and removed the finite range of shotguns from CoD 4.

That sounds like a right disadvantage tbh :/ .

So there IS going to be a coop mode after all?

Woo, interesting ^^ .

PLEASE, I hope it's not going to be "oh shit I just started the game so I haven't unlocked the actually useful stuff yet" again D:!

'Bout bloody time, they should've fixed that three CoD's ago :P .

Bloody hell, so the villain is actually a pistol?

-You are part of a spec-ops group called Task Force 141 (which appears to be a multinational group)
Smells a bit like Rainbox Six. Hopefully they'll still allow us to play as different characters...

-Soap is now ranked as Captain, a veteran, and an NPC (He speaks!)(Who knows, TF141 might be working with the SAS.)
Sweet.

-Locations so far include a base in Russia, a Russian village, Rio de Janeiro, and Afghanistan
I hope they can throw in a tank mission.

-Most definitely new weapons, including the Steyr AUG, FAMAS, multiple members of the AK family (AK-47, AK-103), and other things such as riot shields
I want an equipment selection screen at the start of every mission.

-IW doesn't want to stretch out the story, so the campaign will probably have a similar length to CoD4
Reasonable but can't you just stretch it a liiiiiittle? As long as you can think of interesting stories to tell, by all means, TELL THEM.

-Enemies will carry customizable weapons
Good.

-Environments will be much more open than they used to be
Good.

-There will be, at times, civilians mixed in with militiamen
Shite, that probably means insta-ban in Germany. Gonna tell my mates to get me an English copy for Christmas then...

-Intelligence and briefings will not be an end-all, be-all voice of god- intel will never be truly perfect
Good.

-Special forces mode will be scenarios set aside from the single player campaign- ideas IW liked but couldn't fit into the main story
-Special forces seems like it'll be MW2's co-op (rereading the article, it pretty much IS the co-op)

Well, I hope I can still TRY it without another human player. It sounds different from the standard 'play the same campaign with two guys' kind of coop.

-Levels will be large--very large
About bloody time.

-Some interesting new gadgets mentioned from SP that might turn out to be in MP- heartbeat sensors, movable turrets
Also reminds me of Rainbow Six.

-IW plans to make multiplayer success more of a widely seen thing than just a rank next to your name
Just don't even THINK of making it so strictly account based as for example BF2.
I like being able to change and delete my profile without using an email address.

-IW is "actively trying to eliminate" infinite respawning
Very good.

-SP thus far appears to be very cinematic
I figured.

-Task Force character models use many nonstandard mods that IW discovered from real-life soldiers
Does that mean we'll be getting character customisation? Yay.

-more weapons good....no SA80 BAD
- hmm EO tech coming to town it seems...I wonder are the customisations going to be realistic this time or they are just going to glue them up like an ACOG on a Mini Uzi
-STRETCH THE STORYLINE?!!!!! their most stretched storyline included 6 hours of game time (on hard difficulity may I add)

Great scans there :P . I see the return of the SVD, which is very good news IMO (even if it sucked in CoD4, it looked divine :/). New AK looks like poopy shite though.

Yay the StG-77(Steyr-Aug) will make an appearence! And I really hope to see a full-auto-Glock. That would be awesome.

The game looks good so far. I'm really looking forward to the Multiplayer-part, as CoD4's was awesome.

Is it just me or does this game look a little more Hollywood-like than the older ones?

Woo, cool trailer ^^ . The hollywoodesqueness is probably because it's a trailer. Ingame it doesn't look like it's going to be a different style than CoD4. Remember, that one had comparable hollywood moments.

RaiDK's Photo RaiDK 25 May 2009

Oh wow, pretty hollywoodish trailer. Doesn't seem to really look that much like the first game though.

I like the Trailer quite alot.

It would just be incredibly awesome if you could customize your Character in Multiplayer in terms of Appearance, but I'll doubt that it will happen ...
