Likes/dislikes about anime

I hate it's... surreal -ness. Especially in the case of Azumanga Daioh. (Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's much too weird for me. But I could go either way, because I love FLCL.) I love it's grit and badass... -ness. It's really slick.

I don't like the anime style direction as much as I like the series themselves, I guess.

I like animation of animes , it can't be done so goodly in 3D , lines just too relax , if you know what I mean .
Dislikes : not for matures , when I get into a certain age , I never watch anime again . Last anime I watch was DB GT .

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of Anime's that are done right... but as its been stated, there certain level of maturity that I feel anime cuts people off at. There are those rarer anime's that even an older mature audience can like, as that anime is simply a type of movie... not really a style.
I think I've really gotten away from those series those series that 50+ episodes ::cough cough DBZ cough cough: that don't really ever seem to have a conclusion, and started watching anime's that could be considered mini-series or animes that stand alone movies. As that they have less time to goof around as much, and tend to have a more direct approach to the storyline.
Likes: there really isn't a good equivelant in the western world of cinimatics to the anime genre. so I like Anime for their general originality and different taste.
Dislikes: really getting tired of watching random boob and booty shots of female animated characters, and the complete sense of insanity. Sometimes it works, but its really repetitive.

Yeah goddamn, that childish innuendo gets to me sometimes. There are tons of series I'd wish they'd leave free of it.

well movies and cinimatics are all relative opinions... so when I said got it right, I meant in my opinion. I'm sure everyone who watches anime has at least one very favorite that they can call close to perfect in their own mind

Blue Gender isn't even childish innuendo its...all serious nothing humorous about it thats what makes it somewhat disturbing sometimes. Its like...the Second Earth soldiers are deprived of sex and emotions so they...yeah...
But its quite apparent that the Japanese are way more open about sex than westerners...very apparent.

YOU'S DA MAN
my fav anime too... ya, Radical Ed's a lil wacky, but the fact that all the other characters... EVEN THE DOG EIN... look at her and think she's out of her mind, kinda plays well... that, and she's honestly suppoesd to be a crazy kid genius, so that works out at least in the plotline.
another movie that did a good job incorporating uh, crazy insanity would be Trigun... as that as akward and bizzar as Vash and some of the characters could be sometimes, the actual content of the story made up for it.

I'm crazy. >.>
I'd say I can sum up my dislikes in one word: repetition.
Be it repetition in animation, shallow characters, the same old same old, oh look another mech thingy, bad dialogue, whatever, I'm tired of it.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I hate anime, there are plenty out there that are good and a few that just absolutely 'get it right' (Bebop FLCL, etc); its just that some of them just won't stop taking the same approach.. and some get boring/pointless with bad plots after a certain number of episodes... But yeah I just avoid the stuff I don't like and worship the stuff I do like.

That's a bit strange to say though seeing as, from my impression, you have only seen animes targeted at kids such as Dragon Ball, Pokemon and Digimon.

I also hate how they end. Anime series' are rather short compared to regular American TV. I wish they'd go on longer.

high pitched voices, bad facial expressions, and occasionally the gratuitous involvement of sex, violence and superpowers. i feel that nothing should be there without a reason for it being so.
and on the social/ethnic commentary, i feel that the reason sexuality is so fragrant in anime is because japanese society is so supressed and deprived of it... the opposite is true for both western cartoons and its society.

I used to be annoyed at the exaggerated way of drawing facial expressions too.. Azumanga made me love it, though. And lots of subtypes of anime have more western/realistic facial expressions.
Come to think about it, none of those anime clichés were in Haruhi Suzumiya. No superdeformed facial expressions. At most, the fanservice is all I can mention.

That theory is pretty much true. Overcompensation for a superficial society, fixated on the outside appearance of most things, where desire is mostly ritualized.
Something that strikes me as irrational is censored Hentai. I mean, when the japs are capable of making painstakingly illustrated comics where schoolgirls are raped in every available orifice by horrible tentacle monsters, you'd think that something as innocent as blurring out the "bits" is a bit superfluous.

You know, I suppose if all anime had copy + paste identical animation, then the quality of the writing would be the only thing that differentiates them.

You know, I suppose you have no clue what you're on about. Although if you mean kid's anime like DBZ, Sailor Moon, Naruto etc. then you might be right.
Cryptkeeper 08 Dec 2006
DBZ kids anime O.o seriously you have no clue those animes you just said could easily be pg 13 in north america if unedited maybe even R
but any ways those shows don't use the same animation over and over except a few times wich are far between
but anime spends a great deal time making them unlike many american and euro cartoons
