also now that i have many clear screenshots i have to admit the art direction i am seeing is absolutely disgusting save from certain aspects.

they really do look like shapeless plastic toys.

but considering this is still an alpha stage, anything can happen...

The crawler concept could have been very good, but from what I'm seeing here they a) aren't actually crawling vehicles, but walkers. b) look like EA were playing with Lego and decided it would be a good premise for a new game. c) are a horrible game dynamic with each one being replaced, changing per type of strategy you're playing, and apprently providing no way in which to kill an enemy by taking out their base as it just gets replaced!

It's shoddy, poor quality, and overall exactly what you would expect for EA to crank out. I really hope with all my heart that they pay attention to what people are saying and do something drastically.
For there can be no death without life.

No base building also means no harassment, no build orders, and more importantly no teching.

And actual strategy perhaps? 8|

I think it's good they're trying something new. The new designs look fine to me.

I think some of you would be foaming at the mouth if this wasn't a C&C game and was made by some no name studio.

Yes, harassing an instantly respwaned thing is a good idea which presumably has heavy armour. It would be like harassing a Construction Yard or Command Center, a very bad idea.

It's still in Alpha, and considering EA is going to release a beta for this game, changes will happen. (Yes there has been changes)

I don't mind their ideas per se, just how they are totally assraping a promising game series for some completely out of place experiment. There's some stuff that I actually toyed with for a mod as well, trying to fuse tactical RTS and action-based FPS gameplay. But for a game as this, that'd be at best an alternate game mode, not the one and only ever game type.
Well, at least gameplay wise. Design-wise, I feel it's utter crap. Heck, they are even saying themselves that it's supposed to (and should) be "Much more mature and stern" - yet the game looks like it's made of fusion-powered Lego bricks.
Now go out and procreate. IN THE NAME OF DOOM!

Don't really like graphics but that doesn't matter, if the game plays well I'll buy it 8|

The idea of a mobile base is OK, just how well EA implements the idea. Track record isn't too promising though.

I want to remember you, than if EA didnt buy Westwood, C&C wont exist anymore

then again why i am trying, people bash EA for changing a game at the same time they bash EA for not changing a game

People bash EA as they don't put the correct effort into a title. They simple see the series as a cash cow. Now they appear to be looking to further widen their market with this release rather than focusing on what could make the gameplay better for the fans who have had to live with their bastardisations for so.

Here's a bigger part of the article : I translated it, so excuse me if there are some mistakes...

Quote

C&C4 will be the last C&C game about Tiberium, the developers want to end the saga but they don't totally exclude the possibility of doing other games after this one.

- The story is set 15 years after C&C 3. The earth is covered by Tiberium, and life seems to be near end. Kane contacted the GDI and announced that he had a solution for that problem, but that he can't reach this goal without the GDI's help. Against all expectations both opponents become allied and they create the Tiberium Network Control, which makes it possible to control Tiberium's expansion and canalize it to create an infinite power source leading the humanity to a new golden era. But not everyone is satisfied, some extremists ended up by unleashing war between the two camps, that's where C&C 4 begins. Kane's secrets will be revealed and the scenario will be less Manichean than in others C&C games.

- EA promised better quality campaign videos, there will be no more silly characters talking to a blue screen, there will be action and the commander whom we are going to embody will not be passive. The videos will still be in first person view and will play a major role in the story. The tone will be also much more serious and mature.

- The gameplay will get closer to a RPG. In every fight led (in multi or solo) experience will be gained, allowing to improve units.
In addition, the crawler will play a main role, all reinforcements will be called from it when it's deployed on the battlefield. It can also evolve like the other units. And if it is destroyed, you won't lose the game because another crawler will arrive at a safe place on the battlefield, like the FPS respawn system. During these respawns, you can choose the crawler's class : offensive, defensive or utilitarian. (NB : Can anyone explain me how the game can end if you get unlimited crawlers allowing for a constant stream of reinforcements ? D: )
Finally, Tiberium will be collected by building an installation on a precise place, a control point for example.

EDIT :

Well the article I posted says that you will have to deploy the crawler in order to be able to build reinforcements, so it looks like we'll have a base anyways, but with only one building...

I wouldn't say that. The mobile base idea is not new at all. I shall remind you of the Necrons in Dark Crusade. I myself don't mind this new build mechanic but it's a risky maneuver especially with that instant respawn business. As for the art style, it still looks like C&C3 to me. Please lose the glowy bits EA. As for the storyline, it is potentially retarded, but then again, the story all throughout C&C was never a work of art.

The new screens that were released really do nothing for me. In one of the screens, all I see is a smoothed over Mammoth Mk. II with a chin cannon of cartoon proportions. To put it a little more blunt, the fore mentioned mech looks like a cow. The rest of the GDI units are all...mechs. If I wanted to command mechs, I'd play Mech Commander, not a game that is supposed to be in the CnC timeline. Yeah, Nod has tanks, but they don't look as if some professional created them. Seems as if someone's been huffing glue and paying more attention to a toddler's "masterpiece" than what an adult's creative mind could cobble together. Yes, I do understand that CnC 4 is in its infancy and that these screens have been taken from an alpha but really, that is one horrible looking alpha. I honestly don't see the design of any of the units improving by much...if at all.

Alright, my first and only question about the video would be what is Kane holding in his hand at the end? Apparently it's a bargaining "chip" of some sort, if you will entertain that term.

Cinema is impressive, but to be very honest, cinematics will only get you so far. The game must (at least in my humble opinion) live up to the quality of the cinematics (and vice versa).
